lol the only film where I always seem to catch it in the middle. think the earliest I've got is the drawing ;)

It's a good film but slightly over-rated, I think.

Absolute classic tbh! Such a great portrayal of such a horrific incident. I think it was made to perfection, and the whole thing from start to finish never fails to bore me, but also makes me cry. :(

Terrible acting, cant stand Kate Winslet or Leonardo DiCaprio in this movie.

Titanic the greatest film of all time? I've never heard that before. Well, your opinion, though I completely disagree. It's... okay, nothing more. Bad script - dialogue at times is cringe-inducingly clunky. Good score, good set, good visuals, that's about it. Dull performances. DiCaprio is a stellar performer and his best performances were a decade after Titanic.

Acting is very poor. The film is very well produced I cannot deny. But it's hardly justifiable as the greatest film, even by opinion.

In my opinion Avatar is a lot better, Titanic takes ages to get started!

I love Titanic, but I hate the first bit until it gets to Rose telling her story and Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio starting :)

Avatar wasn't -that- good. Sure the CGI and production was awesome, but it was just a retelling of Pocahontis! (Spelling?) It's ridiculous how much fanboyism it obtains!

Someone said to go on Channel 4 so I did and that was on, only watched the end, never watched the whole film before though.

Might watch it soon.

Well it won 11 oscars, another 76 awards & 48 nominations so it I think most people thought it was more than okay:P Link to awards:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120338/awards

It could have been made for the masses being made shorter/ quick action editing/special effects just for the sake of it but it was slow to start and build up the charactors which made the end have such a great impact both emotionally and visually. Not my favourite film but a very worthy one.

I watched it for the first time in about five years. Granted its not amazing but I liked it, just as I did before. I don't understand why some people hate Titanic so much. Yeah, its a mushy love story - but its a mushy love story done right.

It was the highest-grossing film of all time (without adjusting for inflation), which is why it swept the Oscars. The same reason why the Academy felt like there was no need to do a repeat with Avatar this year, though it was far worse.

Okay well I do not have an inside knowledge of the reasons behind the Academy's decision to award 11 Oscars just because it it was the highest grossing film but if you say so it must be true.

Avatar takes ages to get to the main war ...
And for a decade ago, Titanic was excellently made. Avatar is just effects.

Haha, I'm the same! Also agree that it's over-rated.

Avatar won 3 Oscars and had another 25 wins & 56 nominations - and overtook Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time. It was still a pretty sorry excuse of a film. :P

I find the film very sad :( tears fill in my eyes. I would of hated to be a Family of the people who died.

Fed up of that film since they repeated it 200 times on film4 last year. Best part is when the ships like || that and people fall and you hear a massive clonk when they hit the steam things hehehe

The best thing about that film is when gullable fools think it's a true story hahahahaha.

Good film tho

Well it did happen and some of the main charactors were based on real people who were on the titantic. Obviously, artistic licence is involved but this is even true of 'factual films' to enhance the story line.

"Based on a true story/true events" is just for marketing. Never believe what you see on screen as 9 times out of 10 the story's been injected with fiction-steroids, if you will.

Yes this link is quite good in sorting out the fact from the fiction.

Best fact about Titanic is that when they built it they said God himself couldn't sink it. Oops.

Damn! One of the facts from there

In real life, the 18-year-old wife of John Jacob Astor survived and gave birth to the child, whom she named John Jacob Astor V. His estate gave her an endowment of $5,000,000, on the condition that she never remarry. Years later, she did remarry and thereby gave up the five million dollars.

That'd be tough, but its the age old question tbh, would you rather die rich and alone or married and poor.

(by poor i mean not having the 5 million dollars)

No story "based" on a true story is ever fully non-fiction. It was just based on the Titanic sinking with a love story.

I personally enjoyed the Titanic quite a lot. I have seen many a soppy romance in my time, and very few managed to captivate me throughout as Titanic did. It is, by no means, my favourite film or a film that I would be willing to watch repeatedly (as I know many people do), but I thought it quite endearing and it most certainly appealed to the masses. I always find that certain critics tend to forget that as normal people who like the mainstream populous crap, care little for heavy criticism of films. We simply want to enjoy, not over analyse and over criticise minor details - this film allows us to do just that.
