It's not 'necessary' for girls to wear make up.
And due to it being as a female thing, unless it became more know it does look v weird.
I think its alright if it isnt really noticable
I think for most people it would be for self confidence rather than trying to look good

It is never necessary I don't think, unless it's for medical reasons but if males want to put make up on then why not?

Should be an option for "If they want to", cuz srsly not everyone suits makeup... I would cuz I look better with a bit of foundation (apparently.................)
but its effort.

It depends on the person, I voted yes because for me I like always seem to have to have some foundation or concealer, sometimes a little bit of eyeliner if I look tireed before I leave the house.
But I think it depends on the kind of person. Like someone really manly could probably get away with wearing a little bit of concealer or something whereas someone 'in touch with their feminine side' could get away with wearing more.

it wouldn't really matter to me, men can wear make-up if they like. I know I wouldn't thought, my skins allergic to just about anything you can put on your face, even senative skin cleaning products :S, so chances are I'd never find anything that my skin wont react to.

I dont think males should wear make-up full stop.

Oh wait - males can wear make up. I often have it on (not a clue what it is that I have on) but have it put on when on stage. Stops your face shining in light.

I think it's the same as with girls, if it makes them feel better about themselves and they want to wear it then that should be fine.

As people have said, on stage/TV it is sometimes necessary so that your face doesn't like SHINE on everyone. In general, definitely not necessary, but personally I'm up for a bit of slap if I'm going out with some sort of theme, I'm fairly ok with how feminine I am anyway :P

It's not necessary for any gender to wear make-up really. It's just more acceptable for women to wear make-up, but it depends what you judge as "wearing make-up". Some people do not consider men wearing mascara as men wearing make-up, as it's just one area, so people tend to not care. It's only really when you use that skin coloured make-up stuff (I know nothing of make-up :P) which hides blemishes that is considered make-up it's in generalised form - as it involves more of the face, while mascara is just a "touch up" of sorts - but it depends how you swing really. Literal make-up vs. perceived make-up. Women on the other hand, well, some are blessed with fine skin, some only use eyeliner and so forth. Make-up and women go hand in hand that it's not really worthy discussing.
I think I just wrote a blind, sleepless rant about make-up :S
Unless you are going on T.V, doing theatre etc. then I view males with makeup in their everyday lives just strange. It shadows the sort of masculine perception of a male.
I put a bit of eyeliner on 'cos i'm goin for the hungover gothic **** look, sometimes I like to make my eyeliner run just to add to the effect ;D

As you can see, I have basically got the look down to a t' xD
It's even better 'cos most my friends are borderline-chavs, not the full on scum variety, the lovely kind, so I stick out like a sore thumb, I love it!

I thought Metrosexuality revolved more around males who strongly valued appearance as a whole, not specifically concerning makeup.

Erm, no?
A metrosexual man is someone who cares about their appearance as a whole, which covers a more vast area than just make-up, such as dress & hairstyle. This thread is asking just a small segment of metrosexuality, which happens to be about males wearing make-up

The archetypal metrosexuals have all worn make up, for instance David Bowie, Beckham etc. Whilst that is a gross generalisation on my part, I think someone who cares about their appearance enough to wear makeup regularly for no special occassion is metrosexual.

from wiki;
The term originated in an article by Mark Simpson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Simpson_%28journalist%29)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrosexual#cite_note-0) published on November 15, 1994, in The Independent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Independent). Simpson wrote:
Metrosexual man, the single young man with a high disposable income, living or working in the city (because that’s where all the best shops are), is perhaps the most promising consumer market of the decade. In the Eighties he was only to be found inside fashion magazines such as GQ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GQ), in television advertisements for Levis jeans or in gay bars. In the Nineties, he’s everywhere and he’s going shopping.

Thats so rude, what if they had scars from an attack which they would rather forget about for example, that left them with a scar as a constant reminder. I don't think you're considering everything
The only time males should wear makeup is if it's for a fancy dress (e.g. Rocky Horror Show themed) or they are acting (theatre, television, etc).

When posting what I did that came across my mind. You can tell, usually, if somebody is wearing make up due to an attack or if they just want to... for example, the scar would be in one place so it'd just cover that specific area, but if some boy wants to put crap loads of make up on all over his face, including eye liner and stuff then it's not likely it's due to a scar.
It's a free world (actually it's not). If they want to wear it they can, doesn't bother me, and I probably wouldn't laugh out loud but rather in my head.

Tbh I use it... All it takes is a quick look at my FB or a google search of me to realise that.
But at the end of the day.. sometimes my skin looks ****. And i like it to look nice, so i put some make up on
Other occasions such as Pride or some gigs, i wear loads to look amazingly beautiful.
Where is it defined that makeup is for women? People think its wrong, coz its not done by the majority. HA how ridiculous :)
I love my foundation & blusher & eye liner & straighteners & mascara, and I'm a guy. :)
Go on my facebook and look at em, they're nice with it on.

I think when people thing of boys wearing make-up they think of a disaster, some orange faced person who can't apply it properly
I think it's fine if you can;t tell it's there or if they've done a good job, after all it's not for the benefit of other people most of the time, it's for self confidence

I don't think they have to wear it but then girls don't either.
Girls wear it to enhance their looks or cover up problem skin and I don't see why men shouldn't be allowed to do the same. It's like saying "No no! Girls can wear make up too look good but if you're an ugly boy then you're not allowed!"

Obviously because they are supposed to resemble the appearance of a specific character.

I don't really care what other people do to their own bodies but I really wouldn't like to hang around with someone who does.
Though what if they're hiding something embarrassing such as a birth mark or a skin condition? Surely it's suitable in those circumstances.

Obviously you are entitled to your opinions but I don't necessarily think all gay men are effeminate - far from it I would say. I do think this is a bit more up to date opinion:
The definition of what constitutes effeminate behavior varies greatly depending on the social and cultural context, as well as on the time period. While some effeminate behavior evokes stereotypical impressions of homosexuality in some people, others may simply view the behavior as "unmanly" without questioning the sexual orientation of the person in question.
It is becoming more and more accepted (in fact desired) to have feminine qualities in the western world. In fact, it has been proven that men with effeminate traits earn more and have higher paying jobs and a higher quality of life.
Examples of behavior noncompliant with conventional masculinity have included:
Interest in women's fashion.
Effusive emotional expressions among other males.
Cross-dressing or use of makeup.
Adoption of stereotypically feminine mannerisms.
Fashions change constantly and in history it was often fashionable for men to wear more make up than women.
When actors are not on the set - why then do they wear make up for tv interviews etc?

Personally, I don't think males should wear it. Make up is seen as a feminine thing which makes them try to look pretty. If a man wore it, I would think they are getting in touch with their feminine side but it is their choice and if they are happy with wearing it I have no problem.
