Okay im currently using a Asus Eee 701 currently running on linux.
But I want to install windows xp sp3 on it, I have it currently on a memory stick, I try to run the setup.exe on linux and that obviously doesnt work... So I then tried going into the BIOS menu and telling the minibook to boot from the USB drive (which has setup.exe on it)... Although when I boot this up, it says the USB drive does not have any System OS installed on it... I realise this but thats what im trying to do, install XP on my minibook?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The pen drive is 8GB, i thought this was enough? It only takes around 2gb to install windows?

Are you sure your version of windows xp is working, and not corrupt or if all files are there.

Apart from that everything should work...

4gb hard drive is nowhere near enough. windows xp plus the service packs will take minimum 5gb.

But surely it should at least get the setup.exe running and then notify me that there isnt enough space? Then I could upgrade the hard drive if need be?

Wait what? No way will it take 5GB up.

Your problem is that you haven't created the bootable USB stick properly, you cant just drag the files over. http://wiki.eeeuser.com/windowsxpusb You want method 1.

I was just going to point that out. That's how I did it on my 701, that and Tiny XP Rev 09 of course :)

Do remember that depending on how much space XP takes up, you'll not have THAT much left for documents. Your best idea would be to get a large SD/SDHC card (i don't know if the EEE can read SDHC cards, someone here will, though), and use that for data storage.

oh, booting from the usb is another thing. Thought he wanted to install xp... and yes that will take up 5gb, also remember that a 4gb hard drive will have some space you can't use aswell making it 3.Xgb.

No, He wants to boot the XP installer from USB, he does want to install XP to his Eee PC, no it will not take up 5GB for XP Pro + SP3 and drivers, there is enough room, but as others have said, I would recommend an SD Card for data storage.

Why have evil netbook manufacturers moved away from SSDs & SD cards for storage anyway? It made so much sense when I first heard about EEE PCs having them and now having a normal spinning breakable hard drive seems normal. Surely they're much heaver and less reliable and noisier? How gay
