Haven't seen this posted yet.

China has reacted angrily to Google's decision to stop censoring search results in the country and redirect users to a portal in Hong Kong.

The country's harsh reaction to the move could now threaten the future of the web giant in the biggest internet market in the world.

China said Google's move was "totally wrong" and had "violated the written promise it made on entering the Chinese market".

Analysts say Google's other business interests could now be at risk.

"We don't see this as reducing tension," said Colin Gillis, analyst at BGC Financial.

"We see this as increasing or ratcheting up tension between the two parties.
"You sort of make China look like the bad guy and you think you're going to be selling Google phones? Good luck, we'll see how that goes."

Google's decision to redirect users to the former British colony of Hong Kong means that China will have to carry the burden of censorship.

I think its a very good move on googles part after china expected them to remove lots of world events and there was even a mention that the chinese government creating articles that tell people what the government wanted them to read and not the truth. I know china will block access but it seems its easy to get around the government filters (saw it on a program the other month)
To be honest google are a small fish in china and not making the impact they expected/hoped for so imagine being chinas puppets was not cost effective and more trouble than it was worth in the end.

A company standing up against the socialist masters of China, a good move and good to stand by their morals.

Redirected it to our Google, making it slightly slower, ah well lol. But yeh it was a right move there, it was actually a smart one, as Hong Kong has the freedom of speech and where better to re-direct it then to somewhere in China which runs uner the 'One country, two systems' policy.

Good on them! Although mind you how long that'll last, as China don't think will tolerate such a thing for a long time.

Totally agree with Google what had done here. China is one strange country with all of these OTT laws, not only Google but GoDaddy have stopped selling Chinese domains as well.
