A10. Please do not post asking for referrals ~ Referral marketing is a method of internet marketing that relies on gaining new customers by referrals, usually through word of mouth. Referrals can be an annoyance for members, and therefore they are not allowed, they are also not allowed in signatures.

This rule is supposed to protect members from pyramid schemes right? but what's wrong with friendly threads offering +rep to sign up to other forums, it used to happen fine and people did it (no completing offers or **) just registering to forums, which is exactly what happens in 'Show off your website'

You were also offering 2hc.

It is not allowed to bribe or ask other users to do something which will benefit you.

If you want to do it, don't say "put xxx as referrer", simple.

That's just the same as people saying COULD SOMEONE FIND ME THIS? +REP FOR HELP which is allowed; it's offering 'a bribe'

It's just a gift to those who do it :S

It's not forcing anyone, this place is unpopular compared to CH etc 'cause it's as strict as.

The rule was actually made in the first place because many members were complaining about them. It was so bad in Spam with people pestering that the rules there were amended so you can't advertise a website there at all. You are also the first person to complain about the rule being in force. If you want members to sign up and say that you referered them then it is a 'referral thread'. It's as plain as the nose on your face :P You could have just recommended the website. =] P.S. Club Habbo Forum 81 members online. Habbox Forum 90.

I believe that's what's called bare pwnage.

Nothing wrong with the referral rule imo, like Rosie said you're the first to find issue with it :)

ClubHabbo 73 members

not bad ey? -.-

anyway i think this place is really strict compared to ch aswell... which is fair enough... But i get too scared to post anything on here because everything seems to be against the rules.... i feel more relaxed posting on ch as it isnt as strict and you can post pictures, and offer rep for anyone that can help you... just little things...

I hate not putting a pic of me in my av idk why.... just the fact im not allowed makes me want too :l

but thats a diff rule entirely i guess.

HI JEMM!!!! <33

Habbox has always been stricter than clubhabbo but then clubhabbo has been hacked alot more than Habbox has... alot more. habbox takes being a fansite more seriously, whilst clubhabbo takes it as a bit of a fun thing to do (which is actually good for the userbase so take it as a compliment). Each site has its flaws, Habbox has its flaws & Clubhabbo has theirs, some the same some entirely different.

Btw I think this rule more goes towards people posting Lockerz & "Get enough invites to win an ipod" sorta things? Which do get a bit annoying.

Yes ClubHabbo has been hacked a lot more... but thats down to personal saftey, and security flaws that have gotten stronger and stronger since the recent hacking, its almost impossible to hack clubhabbo without being tomlegend, or hacking him... or knowing the passwords....

But habbox beign super strict doesnt mean its security is super amazing.... Are you saying if i reffer my site, or take a picture of myself and post it Habbox will get hacked, cuzim sure CH wasnt hacked because of that? (A)

Point is i think people who are quite childish are the kind of people who like ClubHabbo cuz it does take things seriously, but not OVER serious, cuz i dnt think a site for habbo hotel can't call itself serious.. i mean come on... habbo? lol...

Anyways a lot of our users are really young, whereas habbox has more mature users who have been around yonks! Just like you :D i think maybe thats the diffrence? I'm not sure... but ive been aroung ages and ClubHabbo makes habbo fun for me... it think habbox would jsut suck all the fun out of habbo for me if it was my main forum because there so much you can't really do that im use to doing on clubhabbo!

I dont think this was ever intended to be a Habbox vs ClubHabbo thread, both sites are as equally good as each other, both appeal to different types of users, and thats why we both continue to exist. So lets just leave it at that.

One does believe the purpose of the thread was to discuss the rule which I think was pretty well summed up by Oli and Catzsy.

Fair point, the security bloke here is awesome & everyones pretty tight on it. I know Habbox bein strict isnt the case for their security, although its an attribute which helps towards being secure against security threats. Some rules on Habbox are just plain silly, like someone got infracted for a posting a picture that someone posted of themselves already on the forum. completely bonkers lol. Yeah Habbox has LOADS of old users but the old users are dying away and i think habbox know that which is why theres less members on the forum everyday. I like Habbox for the ppl I talk to on here, clubhabbos ok but when I was management there I got the sorta community feeling I get right now being a member of habbox for almost 5 years. tis just the viewpoint.

anyway completely derailing this threads purpose lol.

nah the earlier comparison of CH to habbox was what derailed it! haha but i just think some rules are really crappy. Then again ive used habbox since i was liek what? 12.... but ive never really been part of the community, i like a lot of ppl on here... it just doesnt suit me... i love freedom and i dnt feel like there is enough here... and iagree with the person who made this thread.... it isnt reffering sited that gets you hacked, its people gaining access to your accounts by knowing information about you. How is clicking on a link gunna do that?

Sure signing up to a forum gives ppl info, but only really an IP anyone can find that out though.... The rest of the info u submit could be fake, i always use fake info.

if its another site thats uncool idk why guess its just cuz habbox is worried itll lose some users. fairly acceptable reason no?

if it was habbox you were tryin to get someone to refer you as, thats a bit crap.

hffms forum is really bad, like really... hate it hah but seeing as its an official fansite, i dont see why it cant be posted, im sure there are a few threads reffering to it....

Bit of a harsh rule, but thats habbox i guess

but i supose the rule wasnt made just for fansites, its probably to protect people from singing up to hacking sites and stuff just incase, but still... silly rule, just ban anyone who posts a hacking site permenantly, works fine with ch...

I think you misunderstand what he means Jem :P

You can mention any fansite you want (as long as it's not illegal), but bribing people with referrals is not allowed, i.e. "SIGN UP, PUT ME AS YOUR REFERRER & I'LL GIVE YOU XXX"

i agree with favourtism. This rule is stupid especially for sites like this (where you are asking / bribing people to write your name down). I don't see any harm in doing it tbh.

No absolutely not. It was in answer to this quote by favourtism which is blatently untrue.

It's not forcing anyone, this place is unpopular compared to CH etc 'cause it's as strict as.
They are the biggest fansites and everyone knows that. You obviously prefer that site but it doesn't take anything away from this one. Everybody has their own preferences. Anybody can advertise their websites here. The problem with referral threads is that they grew like mushrooms and were spamming the forum which a lot of the members found irritating and annoying. Habbox doesn't have to be like any other fansite. Just because something is allowed on another sites doesn't mean it has to be on here. It seems to have survived pretty well over the years by having it's own identity. =]

Habbox has always been run on the principle we offer something different. I for one won't be changing any rules simply because they exist on other forums. We change / add / remove rules on the basis of where they are or are not needed. This rule will remain for the reasons that have already been summed up by both Catzsy and Oli in this thread. By allowing referrals, we get numerous annoying threads offering X if you join Y. There was a period where this got out of hand and was, quite simply, pissing everyone off. I dare say I am in no hurry to piss everyone off, and thus the rule will remain.

You are free to advertise your websites. Lets face it, if you need to bribe people to join, perhaps the website isn't worth running in the first place any way :P.

You can boast about Habbox's popularity all day love, but ask the community on Habbo. People dislike Habbo as its layouts/skins are crap and almost nonhabboey, also over 'professional'. It's more of a teen forum, over half the members hate Habbo.

@Garion, I was asking someone to refer me on HFFM (for a competition basically) and offering them a HC sofa as thanks. Not bribing them to join, I was asking them to refer and offering a thankyou gift.

If you seemingly want to get personal by taking it that I own the site and saying it's not worth joining, in just two weeks me and Doug had opened HabboHarmony, it had 100-200 members on daily and was shortlisted for official (we opened like 5 days before voting). So I think when I run sites, they don't totally flop ty

You don't have to be patronising. i.e the 'love' bit. :P I was not boasting just stating a fact that there is very little difference in the popularity of CH and us and they are without question the biggest two fansites. No big deal and I guess it's down to choice which fansite you want to be involved in. Also I thought you needed referrals to be able to apply for a mod job not a competition. :S If you know so many people on Habbo why not ask them ? :D

Habbox has relaxed its rules a lot since the old days but still has enough to keep the place in order and this seems to have a lot more mature users of all ages which for me makes a much nicer community.
I would love to see habbox getting more and more non habbo users and in the end stopping help promote a company who throws its weight about at the poor fansites who put a lot more time in to things than the majority of habbo staff.

Edit: If you need referals make some accounts yourself lol sounds like a pretty stupid thing to expect and discriminating against the less popular members who could do a really good job.

hah

lol at whoever said habbox is worse for some things...

you werent allowed mention other fansites on clubhabbo last year and for some time i could have sworn habboxforum was filtered... i even have an infraction for mentioning it and tara (wixard) from this forum signed up and in her opening thread insult someone and got banned straight away lol

Lol at Jemmwahh.. (Or whatever her name is) - most of the time Habbox is generally busier than clubhabbo. Fact.

Also I like how you try making a point that we don't allow avatars to have pics of you in them? Are you looking for more boys than SkaterChu? Honestly I see no reason to need a picture of you in your avatar?

You left habboforum looking for a bit of attention then went back to clubhabbo - but as you said about the avatar rule 'that is something else entirely' ;)

And about our rules being strict.. Wasn't it CH that used to ban people from posting their habbo forums lol

But tbh it is an unfair fight Habbox vs. Clubhabbo. Habbox is still better, and I say now it will remain that way - just ooking at how extremehabbo got the most votes. No dout that was due to the vast habbox followers compared to the other official fansites.

---

Back on track the referral rule is fine - it would get annoyng seeing threads everywhere saying 'OMG SIGN UP TO MY FANSITE FOR FREE HABBO FURNI'

That happens a lot. Isn't it the same as this (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=634677&p=6370966#post6370966)thread pretty much? He is pretty much bribing us to vote for a website . And that is what favouritism is doing, really. They are both in a competition and want to win so they are asking for your help.

I think the rule is all dandy imo and lol @ this thread Habbox vs clubhabbo let me break it down.

Habbox - Way to strict, professional and has allot of sound users.

Clubhabbo - Laid back, not very secure and allot of children.
