View Full Version : Mobile Skin

I really don't wish to be to rude about the new mobile skin but to put it bluntly, it is a complete and utter fail. It is in no way optimised for mobiles and contains just as much as information and clutter as the normal skin (and loads slowly too). It's just as unusable as a normal skin on a mobile too. I gather this is early days but everything about it is wrong. I also understand someone has probably worked hard on this, but has someone not pointed out it doesn't function as a "Mobile" skin.

I have been told it is optimised for PDAs/Smartphones, seeing as the old mobile skin was aimed at traditional mobile phones was far too basic, although I happily used it on Smartphones, I just wish the keys were a bit bigger.

These are screenshots from my iPod Touch (it will appear the same on iPhones);

I'm going to try it on my Viewty later, but looking at it on this forum (ignoring functionality), it looks great! Nice work on the design guys. :)

Here's how it looks on an HTC Hero:

I can see where Jordy is coming from but it is manageable. Using my WiFi connection at the moment, will test mobile to see how good it is at loading etc.

Edit: Been testing it on mobile connections (HSPA atm) and it does load pretty fine, quicker than the site skin anyway. So no problems there! :)

I have HSDPA on my phone, but in my area, I can only get up to Edge signal max. :(

Can we get one like ClubHabbos?

We don't need to know all the nitty details of the bloody forum on the mobile skin.

This is their newposts thing:

Mobile Skin (6)^ Blinger Today 12:05 PM*

the thread title(^) is aligned left and who posted is aligned to the right(*), its basic but it works.

I think it should also take up a bit more space I hate that you have to manually zoom in, I just tried it on Symbian OS, Android OS, a Proprietary OS, iPhone OS, Windows Mobile, Web OS, Blackberry OS and Maemo and the results were all the same. In fact the Symbian, Maemo and Web OS devices for some reason ran the full site skin a lot quicker.

Hi was just wondering whether anything was actually going to be done about this?

Of course. Sorry, I've just been extremely busy and I'm working through a long list :)

When you load the mobile skin, about 3/4 of the left side has the actually content while the rest is just grey. It shows the same as when you load it on the pc btw ;)

I thought this when I first saw it but didn't want to say anything. The original mobile skin was designed for phones with very early web browsers (I think it came out in 06?), nowadays a lot of phones have browsers capable of showing full websites pretty well so I thought maybe having all the images and info was manageable now. Obv not though :D

Well it is manageable for sure. My phone has no problems with the mobile skin regarding with all of the images and information it contains.

Righto its pretty clear the mobile style needs quite a lot of work. You might have to live with it a bit longer but I'll try and get things done :)

Can you take on board that we would like a skin like the ClubHabbo one?

My phone has no problems.
Well in that case there's no need to change a thing!

I said that with regarding able to manage information and the images on the current skin. Not that it should not change because my doesn't have any issues.

I guess I should reply now. I am on my mootorola milestone atm. I have to say how I view the forum so..

I browse the web holding the phone horizontely anyway, so there is obviously not the sqaushed feel. It is faster laoding than the standard skin, howrver it is not that much faster, it is slightly less cluuetered so tbf I think whoever made i it has done a fairly good job. It would harsh imo to say it is a complete fail, although it could still be improved - also I do not know if this just happens on my milestone but the reply to thread button at the bottom does not work lol. Howrevrr if I click reply on a users post it works straight away.

Just my verdict.

It should be text-only as not everyone has £7,000* phones.

* Dramatisation.

Is there any way to get rid of that Easter text at the top? It takes up around 300% of my screen because it resizes it all to fit :P

There is an X on the notice? Unless that doesn't show on the mobile skin.

I'm not sure, Matt. I went back on HabboxForum.com on my phone and that text is gone now.

There should be a quick reply box as standard like the old mobile skin.
and the X is so small it's hard to see!

Very very nice. I congratulate you, mate!
I'm glad you took our advice onboard and it looks decent.

I wonder what it would look like if the top 3 bars (new posts, FAQ and pm) were merged into one div and split into three verticly, to take up less room. But I won't complain it's fantastic ;)

That'd be awesome to have as well, the old crappy mobile skin had t. T could go on the bottom right where it says "quote / report post" ;)?

the new skin is great, the only thing i would say is that can't which forum a thread is in be added to the thread view?

I like the mobile skin tbh, however, it's kinda clumped togther. Like it's hard to make out one thread title from the next, but at least it loads up quickly

Habbox Forum has just gotten the best mobile forum skin I've ever seen on any online community, and I've gotten a Nexus One that sports a WVGA screen. Oh, the irony :(

Jordy

Also I had an idea, at the bottom you could add a link to HabboxLive, you can tune in live on iPod Touchs and iPhones if you go to (Not sure about other devices); http://69.4.233.79:9014/listen.pls

Don't think I'd use it but if it nabs a few more listeners that'd be a good thing :D

There also used to be a home screen icon which has since been removed; http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=567995

That's odd, because I was on this forum from mobile (DROID from Motorola) and it loaded just like it looks on the computer?

You need to select it from the bottom. Or use this link: http://www.habboxforum.com/forum.php?styleid=81
