Hey,

I Google'd this question but it came up with variants of it, anyway...

Is it possible for me to hook my 27 inch iMac up to my LCD TV and use the TV as a monitor? Just for watching films etc.

Wondering if it's possible without spending a bomb.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it's possible. You'll need a MiniDVI to either DVI or VGA depending on what your TV takes.

I stressed the 27 inch because people have been having problems ie cannot play xbox through the imac (using it, itself as a monitor) which is why I'm cautious as to doing this.

The way to do the XBOX through iMac 27 is buying a hundred quid adapter thing.

From what I've just read, it's simply a case of connecting your TV to the iMAC using the Mini DVI port at the back of it.

And from what I can find, they're all only 5 inches which is no use whatsoever.

Or can I use one of these?

Yeah, its possible. You need either one of the following:

If your TV has a DVI in - http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB570Z/A and a DVI cable.
If your TV has a VGA in - http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB572Z/A and a VGA cable.

They are pretty expensive for what they are, but not much you can really do about it.

Output from your Mac to a TV should be easy enough to do with the cables above, although it's sometimes tricky finding a decent resolution which won't chop off the edges of your screen.
