Ok, so the mobile user base is expanding very fast, now a lot of people own iPhone Os based systems, or android, blackberry or even nokia ovi store enabled phones so why not install this plugin, it makes the foum native for those users:

It's free for the forum to install and the user if they want can pay for a premium app or just the free version but I think it's well worth the look at.

I might have to find a forum that uses it and see what it is like. But how many users on HxF would pay for the paid application? The free one lacks in important things that we can do freely on the mobile skin. (Example: You can only read the PM's)

AgnesIO

No no no no. I will never pay just to use the standard features of this forum.

The current mobile skin is fine. Simple.

I wouldn't mind that...

I think Matt summarises the valid points nicely. I know there is an increase in mobile demand for the forum which is why we accommodate users with a mobile skin. I do not see a massive demand for a paid application to do this when we have a perfectly good, fully working mobile skin.

The skin is bloated beyond belief, half of it is due to vbulletin being bloated within itself, the idea of this app is bring native smart phone layout to the design of the forum it removes the elements that aren't actually needed, for example if your on the bus and going somewhat, wanting to browse HxF or any other forum you have to wait for the photos etc to download as well, this takes up a lot of data (except on blackberry where the data is compressed), with this software/plugin it removes all the crap that comes with the forum meaning less is needing to be downloading making browsing, posting and viewing a lot quicker. So what if the free version doesn't include all forum features, that's the users choice if they want to pay or not?

For users without data bolt on with there contracts etc they would notice a drop in their internet usage price aswell if using without WiFi

I tend to want to see the pictures.

Then get the free one and view just thumbnails, simple, if you're not wanting to pay for an app, that's your choice, the fact I posted this was due to the plugin being free for the admins of the board, me and Matt are discussing it at the moment, as it's free for the admin it somewhat makes a bit of sense, the user of the board can decide whether they pay for the app or not or use the bloated mobile skin. Anyway, the pictures I was referring too actually are the little, the background picture, or the B I U images used when posting in the thread.

I guess if the original installation of the application is free for the board Administrators we could look into installing it and then of course it is up to members to decide if they want to pay for the full version when using it. There is, I guess, no harm in having it in addition to the mobile skin. Nevertheless the installation of a plugin to the forum is something that Forum Management will have to discuss with our resident Technician and General Management before it's implementation, but rest assured we will look into it.

It looks good and would rpobably be a good addition to the forum if its free to admins. I dont see any reason not to use it providing the mobile skin is still available to those who prefer it or those who dont want to pay.

Also i think when your on your phone your not too bothered about all the crap, but just want to read something,.

I have just had a little go at this on a forum I logged into. It isn't a bad interface really, its easier to use and such. It is free to the forum owners and then it is up to the users whether they want to use it either the free way or the paid way if they really want the extra features. Could be something we could look into, I agree. :P

I'm with Garion and Matt on this however of course the ultimate decision here will be down to Jin, since he is the owner :)

Just looked at the App Store cost, £1.79. About the same price as Donator really, just a bit over.

On Android devices it would cost $1.99 which would be around "£1.30" according to XE.com. Although the website says $2.99, not sure if that's an old price or the version for the iPhone. :P

Forum Management could give a free month of donator for purchasing the application? Although no money does go to them..

No money going to them doesn't really benefit them, thus why the point in Donator? :P I can see where you're coming from, but it makes no sense.

Personally I would rather an incredibly light style rather than an app purely because it makes it that much easier for users of the non-technical background. I don't see why users should have to go to extra efforts to access hxf with downloading apps etc when ideally they should be able to go to something like m.hxf.com/

As long as we still get the mobile skin.

No way I am paying just to USE the forum with the standard feature.

Just bumping this like HotelUser did, I doubt it will get implemented.

Tapatalk is real nice, I am sure the people here who have mentioned it may already be using it for some forums like XDA-Developers and MacTalk or AVForums, and it is so much nicer to use than the Mobile skin.

Ya know, just putting my vote in.

Robbie

Some people in this thread astound me beyond belief. Nobody is saying you will have to pay for anything. If this was implemented then the mobile skin would stay and it would be up to the individual user whether they wanted to use Tapatalk and whether they install the free or paid version.

This looks amazing and I can see no reason why it shouldn't be implemented.

Here's the situation, if they enabled Tapatalk, you could either:

- Use the current mobile skin, 100% free
- Use the free Tapatalk that let's you post and things but does not let you PM people etc.
- Use the paid version of Tapatalk that lets you do everything

So really, no one can complain.

Would be unfair if you added this and not the football thingy, this will only benefit about 5 or 6 users if that. You said you would only install things which benefit the MAJORITY of the forum, this is no way does, it will help a handfull of users. Bit two faced arnt we?
