Referee Mike Dean has been demoted from officiating in the Premier League this weekend. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson called his performance "poor" in their 2-1 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday, while Dean also awarded Blackburn a questionable penalty in their 1-0 win over Burnley the week before.

Simon Beck, who failed to flag Didier Drogba offside for Chelsea's second goal, has also been demoted and both will officiate at Bristol City this weekend. (Daily Mail)

it's good that the FA have "acknowledge" their dreadful performance last week which has probably cost us the league. - Hopefully the other below average referee's wil step up their game by a long shot.

Kind of unfair, Dean didn't miss the offside - the linesman did. As for Machedas handball, how was he supposed to see that? Walton deserves the sack, not Dean. It's shocking, simply because he refused to massage Alcoholics balls. Alcoholic is getting desperate, tick tock.

Now why the hell is Phil Dowd not domoted from when he failed to send off Vidic in the final?

Mike Dean is one of the most competent refs in the league I reckon. Howard Webb however...

Stupid FA giving in to Fergie's moaning.

Mistakes happen all the time.

You would've lost that match every day of every week no matter what. Stop making excuses.

One little tantrum from Fergie and a man is demoted? Dean has made much bigger mistakes, not to mention the rest of the referees in the prem.
