I'm on a Natwest Adapt Account, aged under 18. And today I received a letter through the post from Natwest saying that they'd failed to pay a transaction because there were insufficient funds available in the account. They have said, that I might of been charged a Unpaid Item Fee.

Firstly, I have a overdraft of £0.00. I'm on a Debit Card which should be bouncing back any payments, which can't be made. They haven't given hardly any information on the fee.

I just phoned them up, and spoke to an Adviser. They don't have any access to my account information for some reason. So I'm going to have to phone up between 9am and 5pm tomorrow or visit them in branch.

The funny thing is, this is illegal? I haven't signed any credit agreements, being aged 18 and their T&Cs even say that I can't make a standing order/direct debit. Meaning they are completely contradicting themselves.

Does anyone here know if they will charge me? have you been charged?

I'll be ensuring tomorrow, that the amount can be paid off in branch and making sure I'm not illegally charged.

Anyone under the aged of 18 in the United Kingdom cannot be charged by the banks. If they do charge you, you can appeal it. I believe it is illegal to do so. So you are correct regarding the under 18 thing. :)

Edit: I have been charged once and I'm under the aged 18. Although I totally forgot about this and paid the charge, very silly of me to do. :(

I'll go in branch tomorrow, and ask for a balance. If there is a charge there, I'll appeal to the Clerk and if they refuse to budge - I'll be phoning Natwest and putting it in writing.

It looks like I may be getting a bank charge even though they refused the payment as it would have took me past my overdraft limit.

I forgot to transfer the money I needed on that day :(.
