A report into the use of overseas doctors in Britain has warned that changes to the system must be made immediately.
It follows the death of 70-year-old David Gray who was given 10 times the recommended dosage of diamorphine by a German locum.
Dr Daniel Ubani had been accepted for work in Britain by Cornwall Primary Care Trust (http://www.cornwallandislesofscilly.nhs.uk/CornwallAndIslesOfScillyPCT/HomePage.aspx), despite being rejected by the NHS in West Yorkshire because he could not speak English properly.
Under European law, the General Medical Council (http://www.gmc-uk.org/) is not allowed to test language or medical capabilities of doctors within the EU.http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Warning-Over-Foreign-Doctors-Working-In-UK-HSC-Wants-Immediate-Changes-To-Vetting-System/Article/201004115596979
Sickening really, an overly politically correct law by the EU means that a doctor's English cannot be tested, and here's the result, a man dying due to an overdose.

I was thinking that too? LOL. It's stupid with the language because you need good communication in say and operation with your team, or talking to a patient about what happened etc. Also, what the hell at not testing their medical capabilities? Surely that's got to be a mistranslation from the press?

Wait whatNot quite as bad as it sounds but worrying never the less (+rep for noticing), presumably they have to be qualified in their home nation but it means we can't test their abilities. I would assume in the UK we have some of the most highly qualified doctors in the world, but this means we could have doctors from Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria etc operating over here without any tests.

this is quite clearly a bad move, but i thought the man died because the doctor was incredibly tired. but i think this also shows the inadequacies of the primary care trust who didn't spot what the yorkshire care trust did.

What people also know little about concerning the European Union is that it causes widespread poverty and starvation in Africa, on one hand they often dump all extra foods onto the African markets (thus putting farmers out of business) and when there is no food to dump on African markets, because the African farmers have gone there is no food to eat. It is a big crisis and is caused solely by the European Union. This is yet another issue which causes misery, costs a heck of a lot and even results in death because of the project which none of us want; to have Europe under one flag.

the americans do it too. & its not little known
i guess it is often given out on the premise of 'aid.' The CAP has many problems but it is a system worth having.

The IMF are the worst for causing poverty in Africa, there always putting restraints on farmers and workers before they give loans which will inevitably put the government in debt for decades and will be impossible to payback.

no but i think it's fair to say that any country/union that has a method of subsidising food production will always have a surplus and dump it. I THINK the chinese do it as well (not 100% sure about that one).

I would play hell if I was being treated in my own country by a non english speaking doctor - When abroad then its up to yourself to be understood in their language.
The EU food thing is just a total scam :o Our food prices are on the up again because they have decided people in the EU are not allowed to sell the odd shamed - to big - to small fruit and veg etc (this was the case in the past but they stopped it for a year or so but I think the foreign growers were not getting a high enough price) :o it all tastes the same but people caught breaking these rules could face a criminal record :s
The poor fisherman who reach their quotas or catch certain fish they shound'nt throw so many fish back each day so they don't crazy fines :s almost all they throw back is either dead or dies (feeds the seagulls i guess) Maybe they need to broadcast messages telling all cod or haddock to come back the next day as they have caught the quota of that fish for the day.....
The smoking ban is a total sham :o if you did not want to go in to a smoking pub or club then you could choose not to :o We now have streets full of smokers who look like they are loitering to sell drugs or sex. The ban should have been to stop all smoking on the streets. The beer gardens are now full of smokers which ruins the enjoyment. When the ban 1st came the landlord of my local banned kids and made his small garden a smoking garden lol. There is far more litter from these smokers than there ever was before.
If the EU used common sense when making laws we would perhaps give them a little credit. If the EU was funded fairly by all nations in instead of some giving and most taking we might show a little support. Maybe if we got our vote on the EU constitution that Blair promised then we would all have turned pro european? Brown the clown signing a document with all the consitution had in it just with a different title was so wrong and if there was any good things the EU could do for us I am afraid lots are not willing to listen any more and I think thats because we were all ignored when it mattered.
Can anybody tell me why the UK follows the EU laws to the letter but every european country I have been seems to pick out the laws that benefit them and stuff the rest? and good on them for doing so.
