View Full Version : Possible username clearout?

I've noticed on other fansite forums that they've cleared out a few usernames based on certain criteria, things such as inactivity, lack of posts etc and I just thought it was a really good idea.

HabboxForum by far has the most registered users yet over half haven't signed in for a good few months and I thought maybe it was time for a clearout? It would free up some decent names for current and maybe new members to use and it won't be of inconvinience to users who previously used the forum that don't anymore.

Maybe you could delete the accounts of those who haven't signed on for a year, or those who are permanantly banned, even unvarified users?

dont see why not
for the signed in over the last year bit though it should be like people with <1000 posts or something just incase they do come back

I agree.
Now that Habbo have done this and we are merging with other Hotels, there is potential for alot more users with a lot more names so I think HabboxForum should follow this and clear out as many old usernames as possible, especially the ones which have logged on once...

I agree, if it's just a year without logging in, might be too risky...

yeah agreed with jake, under 1000 posts and over a year!
But there could be people who have over 1000 that haven't logged in for like 3 years or something!

Maybe sam/jin could work out the criteria but i definitely think this should be done :)

well obvs if it was like that then they're more likely to be deleted, but they could still come back so yanoo might be safest to leave them.

I agree, but I think 1000 posts & 12 months is alot of posts & a short period of time

Maybe 500 posts & 24 months might be better?

Yeh not everyone posts all the time some users come on for just 1 section of the forum. + its unfair if someone leaves for 2 years an comes bk an they have their acc lost..

no this shouldnt be done, i know people who left for 2 years and come back, infact alot of people regularly do it if you see the welcome threads, if people come back to find there account gone it would put them off.

jrh2002 left and came back.
Only do it if they registered, didnt activate and have no posts.

That's quite a good point. There are around 5000 users who have never activated their email.

Well the criteria I listed was the criteria used for the last clearout.

I dont really think that there's much point because most people just have their habbo names anyways :/

I agree with this, there have been a quiet a few people over the years who've returned after 6 months, a year, what ever it is and I don't think it is fair for them if they return and their account has been deleted.

Just do what Dander said. You'd get some very unhappy people that come back if you deleted the other ones (e.g titch)

I would be willing to talk with Garion about proposing clearing out usernames who have not activated their account and have no posts that are over 2 years old to General Management.

Obviously something this large would require General Management (and possibly even Jins) approval, but I don't see why we can't clear out unactivated accounts.

I do it every june along with some secret pruning and deletion of other things just never announced it because before i wasnt telling ---mad--- that i was doing it :P. June 13th, but my criteria was stricter.

Could do what habbo do -

delete some under a strict criteria

rename some under a less strict criteria (free up the name) so add a symbol to the end

only the ones that haven't activated their account, other than that I'm against it.

If most of you actually bothered to read my post I said a year was just an example and sam/jin could work out the criteria. I like the unverified idea but i think if someone hasn't been online for years and have a low post count then their username should be freed up to someone who is active at the moment, e.g the user "dave" may not have been active for 5 years, has 30 posts and theres the user dave007 who may want his name?

Chances of deleting accounts with posts are slim.

I think it is a brilliant idea. I was about to say that the 'Unactivated' members who have maybe under 100 posts could be deleted so their would be more names availible!!

The problem with deleting user names who have posts is that their post then become "guest" posts which look terribly untidy. I know they're normally in quite old threads but nevertheless it is still somewhat undesirable.

I don't think there's a function for mass name changes and I don't fancy editing a couple of thousand users names.
