New curbs on anti-social behaviour in a Kent town over the summer are being enforced by police.

Kent Police said a dispersal order covering Herne Bay would run for six months until September.

Officers said up to 40 young people have been gathering and causing mayhem in the seaside town.

The youths have been fighting, intimidating passers-by and hurling racial abuse at visiting students, a force spokesman said.

Insp Terry Chuter said young people were travelling from Whitstable and Canterbury for the gatherings.
He said: "The community in Herne Bay should not have to put up with this behaviour."

Under the order, police can make groups of two or more leave the area and not return for 24 hours.
If they refuse or return within this time they may be arrested and charged.

Offenders can face a fine of up to £2,500 or three months imprisonment.

Not sure what the bad side of this could be :/ It's odd, when you think of Kent you don't immediately assume drinking :P I just think of relatively wealthy people and french people entering the country :P

Yeh its weird, because alot of the people involved in this (i know most personally, because i used to do same when in was younger last year) have very well of parents and while there parents go out for night they themselfs are going out and getting drunk on beach, thats the main issues, you get groups of 20-30 kids all along beach getting wasted, and its okay when they are behaving, but when you get the ruff kids come along and start it all kicks off. Alot of girls i know who come to me asking me to get them drink from morrisons and pay me get like 100 quid a night from there parents and the only thing they have to spent it on is alcohol.
