After several rumours of a possible relaunch over the years we finally have the news we've all been waiting for. I've met with representatives from PepsiCo, had several phone calls and even tried a sample of the new UK version, and now, I can officially confirm that "Mountain Dew Energy" is set to launch in the UK this spring.

I was contacted by PepsiCo and told about the launch last year but was asked not to report the news until the product was developed further. As you can imagine I didn't want to risk jeopardising the launch so I respected PepsiCo’s request, but now that everything has been finalised I've finally been given the go ahead to report this fantastic news to you all.

Because so many of you contacted Pepsi, signed petitions and joined numerous facebook groups, they finally noticed that we want Mountain Dew and PepsiCo have responded in the best way possible. The new product is going to be called “Mountain Dew Energy” and will be entering into the energy drinks market at the end of April/early May and will initially only be available in bottles. Its going to contain more caffeine than the Mountain Dew we all know so hopefully this will aid in its popularity.

PepsiCo UK have decided (wisely) to stick with the American version of the logo but have added the word “Energy” at the bottom in Mountain Dew's distinctive green colour.

The colour of the actual drink its self is slightly different to the American version as you can see in this photo. Its more yellow than the greenish hue we are all used to. (American Dew on the left, UK on the right)

Energy? It bombed in the UK originally, but perhaps if they do stamp "Energy" on the bottle it'll attract the 14-year-old Red Bull/Monster junkies. It will have a different taste because the ingredients used in the US recipe are no longer used in UK ingredients, just like how Coca-Cola tastes different over here than in the US, as does Dr. Pepper, which has a COMPLETELY different taste across the pond.

why couldn't they just not be awkward and keep the us version instead of making an energy one for the uk?

Good news everyone!
I can't wait! I fell in love with Mountain Dew in America last year and I was hoping they were gonna release it in the uk!

Misawa
21-04-2010, 10:02 PM
It bombed in the UK before, that's the only reason it's being marketed as an energy drink this time round.

Jongo
21-04-2010, 11:28 PM
they were forced to make it an energy drink due to the fact it has twice as much sugar/caffeine than a can of coke, thus couldn't be classed as a soft drink as it's too unhealthy -_-

with energy drinks they normally dillute it, hope they dont with this!

"Mountain Dew UK is launching on the 3rd May and over the coming weeks! Pester your local petrol forecourts, motorway service stations, WHSmith Travel outlets, Sainsburys Local and large stores, Martin McColls newsagents and your local independent retailers to see if they’re stocking the Dew!"

this has been a big fail, has anybody actually gotten their hands on this yet?

Many people have got their hands on it according to the comments left on the facebook profile. Although I do have to agree the launch has been some sort of crap, it should of be launched in a ton of stores on the first week at least. I'm still waiting for them too announce it has reached other stores.

Won't American Soda be the proper American stuff though, rather than this energy drink they're giving us?

Your humour is amazing, please give me more. You should write a joke book.
For your information I did not order it from AmericanSoda. I bought it from an eBay seller for far cheaper who lives less than 30 minutes from me.

So has anyone been able to compare the original Mountain Dew to the new Mountain Dew Energy yet anyway? :P

Sam
20-05-2010, 12:19 PM
I had a bottle of each the other day and i can barely taste the difference. I think people are making a big deal out of it all like 'Ohh it tastes rubbish compared to the American version'.

Lies, tastes almost identical :) .. IMO anyway.

Friend who runs a shop bulk ordered some and gave me three bottles today. You can definitely taste the Mountain Dew, the taste isn't quite as sweet though and there's more of a lemony taste. So to conclude, it's good but not as good as normal Mountain Dew, well worth buying however.

Wootzeh that was the first 12 cans, I bought the rest from www.yankeesoda.co.uk - It is far cheaper for me because the seller lives a 20 minute drive away.
I ordered 6 cans of Mountain Dew Voltage and it came today. Cant say I like it too much.

Well the official facebook group has/had a page that said they were starting to sell it in bp garages, then slowly rolling it out to rs mccolls and martins newspaper shops, then sainsburys, so it might be in some of them, but whether theyre in every uk store or not is a bit doubtful.

I've managed to get a few bottles from a sainsburys near my girlfriends house.
Doesn't really taste like the proper stuff, although its still nice - there was no need to change it in my opinion.
We all wanted the proper stuff and got an energy drink LOL.

It was always going to taste different. We can't use the same ingredients in manufacturing as they can in the US. Like I already said, Coca-Cola has a different taste over here, as does Dr Pepper, and now, as you are witness to, Mountain Dew.

Coke + Dr Pepper taste exactly the same in the US as they do here
