Just throwing this out there to see what people think, but I think 2 months for infractions is a way long time, especially since 5 infractions is a caution etc. etc. which is very easy to achieve in that timespan.

What I suggest is reduce it to a month, so that members who are constantly rule breaking get penalised, not the members who break the odd rule... Or perhaps a different classification on what rules incur a infraction as to a warning?

Necessary or unneccessary?

I'm just throwin it out there, dont ****** attack me for a suggestion lol

Well personally as they never used to expire and then were six months things have got quite a bit more lenient especially with the pm system - it used to go to a straight warning. I think it's about right now tbh.

I hate this new PM thing. It means you get usernotes that we cannot see.

I prefer the caution/infraction way of things before.

A usernote is only a copy of the pm sent to you.

It's not all that easy to get infractions, if you stick by the rules. I as Rosie also remember the days where they would never expire and had a perm record on your account. Think it is more than fair. :]

its hard not to get infractions for some of us :( even when we do behave we get screwed over :(

So do usernotes expire or what?

I think 2 months is actually quite generous, seeing as the old expiration dates were 6 months and NEVER. :P

well it's what mods should be doing, and if they're not then tut tut.

Well I don't count them over 2 months and I am sure most others don't either but that is an interesting & valid question to post which I am sure will be addressed.

Well the only instance I can think of, Jack, is when somebody is cautioned when we physically can't. What occasions were you thinking of?

Adamm

Exactly it's not fair if usernotes don't expire when cautions did.

I still prefer caution/infraction and I'm sure the moderators will prefer less hassle...

Probably less hassle Adam but there would be a lot more people banned. This way they have every opportunity to know what they are doing wrong, informally. :)

You could give people a caution and say 3 cautions for the same offence = infraction and 3 infractions = temp ban.

It's the same thing though, it just gives the user a chance to visually see it. You quickly forget about PMs.

Do you mean a warning rather than a caution?

Isn't it quite simple? I'm going to be really blunt here... don't break rules? lol
ok *stop being devils advocate*

but urm, 2 months is fine, lol?

i suggested the warning thing a while ago adam, but it was rejected because the PM is less robotic and a bit more personal.

Back when I was a moderator, the usernote changed each time, and most of the time it definitely wasn't what was sent via PM. :P

Well it is now and the mod manual is pretty strict on this. :D

We are very strict on Moderators sending a PM regarding rule breaking and any usernote you receive is just a record of PMs you may receive. In some instances user notes are posted to alert other moderators to an ongoing issues, such as if a member has a history of bullying but cases of these are very rare.

Not long ago I changed the way automatic bans were issued so it took a little longer and times were shorter. I believe we are quite lenient and accomodating in regard to rule breaking and at the end of the day, if you don't break rules you won't get infractions and cautions!

Agreed, if you don't break the rules you won't get in trouble. If you have trouble with this principle you're going to struggle in life.

Well if you are breaking the odds rules you shouldn't be getting cautioned any time soon. I think 2 months is a good amount.

Not really. I've never had an infraction, and haven't had a warning for 2 years.

Seems easy enough to me!

LOL totally forgot i made this thread.

I guess thats a fair point Garion, sometimes I break rules by accident though like saying "***" instead of "****" (who uses the k nowadays honestly) & thats a red one for avoiding the filter... not on purpose at all. >_>

But yeah fair point

*** is avoiding the filter?!?!?!!?!? whatttttttttt lol
2 months is fair enough, i get infractions frequently but once i get to 3 or 4 it stops me from breaking any more rules because then i know i'll get cautioned. it's your own fault if you end up going over it really.

yeah ive been infracted at least twice for it lol. its the only way i avoid the filter... and even then lol.

You serious? So you have to say door ***, and even that's avoiding the filter? Tbh i consider *** as the offensive spelling and **** as the innocent one :S

Nixt
22-04-2010, 05:04 PM
If you said door *** and were referring to a door ****, it would not or should not be considered avoiding the filter. The word is only really classed as avoiding the filter if you are using it in the context of the filtered word. Moderators are encouraged to use their judgement and in certain situations I would not encourage them to infract for a minor rule break such as that that could be an accident. I will, therefore, instruct the Moderators in case they aren't fully aware of this :).

There is common sense for you. :D

The Professor
23-04-2010, 05:14 PM
Its common sense but I kinda assumed they wouldn't do that anyway because that would be stupid! Its more the backwardsness of the filter that I was pointing out, *** is offensive and **** is the term for a handle. The wrong one is filtered, is it possible to filter *** and leave **** unfiltered?
