I run the Sims 3 maxed out on a Quad Core 3.6GHz (works fine at 2.4GHz too though), 4GB RAM and an 8800GT, I'd say you'd have to spend ~£400 - £600, which would get you a nice gaming machine overall, especially with Core i5, etc

Is that making it myself or buying it?

Either IMO, you could build it your self, go for a nice Dell or whatever :)

Idk how taxing the sims 3 is but I'd think it could be run on pretty much any off the shelf PC, no? I can't imagine it being that taxing! As long as you spend around £400 you can't really go wrong (as long as you put that money into the real specs and not fancy options like blu ray drives) (and don't get anything with an atom in :P)

Sims 3 is pretty good graphics-wise, can run it on medium on my MacBook which is 2GHz C2D, 2GB RAM and 9400M

You could get a decent computer to run Sims 3 for £300, but that'd be with a not so great brand name, if you want something with decent processor and ram you can get ones on eBay for like £100 they just dont have alot of gb of hardrive which isnt hard to get around.

I run on high settings using my HP, AMD Athlon X2 (2.1Ghz), 3Gb RAM, ATI Mobility 4530.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/196618 Get that.

But fit a new graphics card to maximise performance, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173705 will do.
