A team of scientists and doctors are studying the bizarre case of a man in India who says he has survived without food or water for the last 70 years.
Prahlad Jani, 82, also known as Mataji, is being examined in a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He claims that special powers from Hindu goddess Amba have allowed him to shun food and water since the age of eight.
A spokesperson for the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences says that Mataji may help with working out strategies to combat water and food shortages during natural disasters.
He added that soldiers may also benefit from the study if they face situations, "when they are left in the deserts or in forest or in high altitude areas."
Mataji has not taken on any liquid or food since entering the hospital. But Sudhir Shah, a Neurophysician from Sterling University says this is unremarkable: "A person can live without food and water for three, four, seven to twelve days."
There are unusual aspects to Mataji's case. Since being placed under observation he has not passed urine, which Mr. Shah describes as a "unique phenomena." Investigations into Mataji will last for a total of 20 days.
Don't think I believe it but yeah okay whatever you say ...

70 years, i think its a bit werid, and i also think it is untrue, but then again it could be true, it says about up to 12 days with out food or water, that sounds mroe likely than 70 years, i would of thought, he would of been dead if he didn't eat. he must of had rain or something i'm guessing.or its just a publicity stunt.

Hmm I've heard stories before of an old woman being able to recall practically every day of her life and another old man in Asia who went a decade without sleeping, but no food/drink is just a step too far :P

Very very unlikely. In fact i'd say it's impossible.

sounds pretty farfetched, but depending upon how long he allows, they could 'study' him for years to get an accurate reading on atleast those times.

A vietnamese man http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_Ngoc stayed awake for 33 years despite being put on several very powerful drugs.

I would doubt it, but remember, some odd things happen. The chances of this are like what, 1 in so many billion. There are ~6.6billion people on earth, so if the odds of this are 1 in 6.6billion then it could/would happen to somebody.

No that would be the odds of it happening to him if there was definitely one human alive who could survive without food and water :P the actual odds of it happening are uncalculable as thus far there's never been proof of it having occurred

This is kind of off topic but, why does this stuff rarely happen in like the UK and these sorts of countries, developed. Unless his mum had sex with a plant so it was photosynthesis I don't believe this bull.

We need food for energy?
No food no energy, can't run bodily functions, can't respire, Die.
Water makes up 55-78% of the human body. We don't drink water, it firstly screws up the water potential of our cells etc etc so salt to water concentrations are higher, nerves get messed up, we die.
This seems scientifically impossible.

There are two possibilities; A) it's true and he's never enjoyed a decent meal, B) he's lying and will sooner or later be made to look like a complete idiot of an attention seeker.
Either way, sucks to be him!

Unless his mum had sex with a plant so it was photosynthesis I don't believe this bull.Cause the UKs population is about 60 million, the worlds population is around 6 billion (Bit higher I know but for the sake of this). Therefore only 1/100 people on Earth are from the UK.
Yeah, but that's basically just an extreme version of eidetic memory. :PIndeed.

Yeah but you don't see this stuff in american, most of europe, australia etc.Still their populations aren't that big if you put them together.
I think America is something like 300 million, the EU is 500 million and Australia is about 5 million. That's like 1/8th of people in the world, quite small really considering it holds most the power and wealth.

Well, he went for 15 days (I thought it was meant to be 20) and he didn't eat or drink... amazing. After reading the whole thing I'm finally convinced it's all ********. The people behind it have done similar things in the past, they won't allow independent verification and they have been busted in the past.
In 1999, they investigated a woman who claimed that she was the reincarnation of another Hindu goddess. For five years, she had remained alone in a small closet where it was claimed she had not eaten nor passed any urine or faeces.
In co-operation with the police, investigators from the association searched the room, finding a toilet hidden behind a shelf and a disguised hole through which she received food. Blood tests revealed the presence of glucose, indicating the intake of food.
To further prove the case, a gas was released into the room that made the woman vomit. The contents of her stomach were found to include pieces of recently-eaten chapatti and potatoes.I notice how the media aren't so outgoing about that (Right at the bottom of such a large article), they clearly know it's ******** but it sells newspapers and they're not lying so they'll continue to do it.

I feel the same. If he was flown to the UK and examined by doctors here, then I would believe it. But like that's gonna happen.

Hard to fake when you are being monitored by the military.

It says something about the same doctor or whatever expert he is claiming all of them to be real but in the past some have been proven as fake, so it's safe to assume this is the same.
