Steve told us it'd be revolutionary, and if sales are the measure of a device's success, then the iPad seems to be well on track to validating its creator's bold claims. This past Friday, "just 28 days after its introduction," Apple sold its millionth iPad. 1.5 million ebooks have already been downloaded to the device, along with 12 million apps. Steve Jobs has also taken time from his busy essay-writing schedule to remind us that that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve the milestone with the original iPhone, and demand for the "magical" slate continues to outstrip supply. Full PR after the break.
Not to shabby for a giant iPod huh
Moved by Syko2006 (Forum Moderator): From 'Technology Discussion' as it's better suited here. :)
A figure for the percentage returned would be nice though :8.

I'm confused on why anyone would get one in the first place.

Apple will eventually tell us why we want one, then the majority of people will buy it lol

I suppose not. There's more madmen out there then I first thought.
Now that I look at things, though, I do see some uses for an iPad.

I can understand where people are coming from with the 'Giant iPod' crap (talking about the iPad Wifi, here), but seriously, look at what's inside of it, go and look at the specs, they are completely different devices. Also, you cannot compare the iPad 3G to an iPod Touch, you just cannot, totally different devices.
I think to DISTINCTLY separate the iPad from the iTouch Apple could have included a camera on the iPad, then there wouldn't be all these comparisons.

Apparently the electronics inside are identical to the iPod Touch, and the enormous space left is for some long and thin batteries. The innards are all the same it would seem. The operating systems are near enough identical too seeing as they use the same, graphics are just for a bigger resolution that is all. Oh and a slightly more powerful processor, however the latest iPhones and iPod Touchs will presumably include this next June/September

The iPod doesn't have location services, so it can't be used as a TomTom for example, the iPod Touch also doesn't support Wireless N, neither does it have compass, voice control, no 3G so you cannot use it wireleslly, pound for pound the iPad has by far the superior battery, the iPad has the far superior processor too, making it much faster, and obviously the notable difference in screen and size.
I don't see how you can compare the iPod to the iPad, or call them the same thing, they are both two totally different products and will both be used in totally different ways, the iPad will more or less be used like a laptop that you can take to work, or in your car, SatNav, etc, because of the wireless internet, where as the iPod is more for music, long distance travelling etc.
However I do agree, I would find it more appealing if they made a separate Operating System for the iPad, like a Mac OSX type of OS, would have made it much more exciting.

Meh they're just the same inside, give or take a few things. Kinda obvious the iPad wouldn't make a good GPS device and that it would have more battery life than the iPod Touch. The next iPod Touch will just make it even more similar most probably along with the addition of a camera. They even look the same, the iPad is literally just an enlarged iPod Touch.

People are too narrow minded and have a blind and wrong hate for Apple as you can see by the responses to this thread. Oh well. I haven't and wont buy one because of my lovely Nexus One. I just love seeing everyone here hate on it when it's selling incredibly well :P

I don't bring my opinion into market predictions and neither should anyone else. The fact is, it is just a big iPod Touch... What features does it have the iPod Touch doesn't..?

I won't buy one, not this gen anyway, hopefully with the next gen, as like they did with the iPhone, they improve it vastly, because at the moment it doesn't interest me. I would also like to see the iPad OS improved because I don't think it looks right on the iPad.
And yeah Jordy I agree, I HATE THE LOOK OF THE IPAD. It looks like an ugly picture frame. Seriously.
Phillip Schofield (sp?) on This Morning had an iPad, was showing off with it, must have cost him a few quid to import one from the US?

I fail to see the link between a product selling well and a product being hated on a forum based in a country in which said product isn't even on sale yet.

Must of been worth it for the looks he got on the London Underground I hear :P

If you look hard enough you could, everyone who uses an apple device like that without first thinking it through will have a self righteous blog or something with their photo on it.

Most people buy it to 'show off' and because it's a apple related product. Nothing fantastic really, I'm sure there's smartphones out there that can do exactly similar things to the ipad.. difference is, the size of the screen.
Apple products are way overpriced and unjustified.
As what someone said earlier, it would be interesting to see how many people bought it, and then bought it back...

Obviously not everyone bought it to take it back, and yeah Apple are stupidly overpriced, though they make quality products.

Wanted one that they could leave on the coffee table to impress people with when visitors come round?
Wanted one so that they could say "I own an iPad"?
One market I can see for this is old grannies that can't read an iPod screen. lol.

Not flash! But in all seriousness the higher screen resolution would appeal to me if not for the existance of wvga HTC smartphones. Why not go buy one and find out. I can see that its very easy for most people in this thread to moan about the ipad but really, most of you are primarily Microsoft men and have never used ipads before anyway!
I was not aware that you possessed the ability to read minds of a million Americans who bought this!

Isn't the resolution of the iPad 1024x768? PAH, that'll be in your HTC Android handset by next year.

I'm depending on it. I just bought a Nexus One several weeks ago and have been on Android since release.
