Let the Right One In

Watched it the other night on FX and I thought it was really good actually. Refreshing amist the hoards of crap vampire movies and shows flooding tv and movie screens atm (which aren't restricted to the Twighlight series).
Even though it was quite slow paced, it wasn't obvious and didn't drag on. The story has you, well had me anyway, gripped all the way along.

It is an artsy film if there ever was such a pigeon-hole genre but it goes down on paper as a horror. As far as horrors go though it wasn't exactly scary and it was more about the relationship between Oscar and Eli but it still works as a horror film. Mainly I was just glad that there weren't any lackluster vampires and it treated vampires for what they're meant to be: something scary.

I'd quite like to talk more about it but I should probably see if anyone's seen it first! If you have, what did you think of it?

Remade and gettng released this year by Hammer as Let Me In with Chloe Moretz as Eli. Since it's adapted from a novel I'm not hating on its production and am keeping an open mind.

Yeah I heard their remaking it, don't know if I like the idea. Apparently they're going to cut out any ambiguity about Eli's gender, casting Moretz would do just that. What's the point? So it's an open-ended story, let people deal with it.
Heard even the 2008 version cut out features from the novel as well, namely Hakan being a pedophile and the resulting relationship between him and Eli. It seemed to work fine without it and it's inclusion would only make the film even heavier, and it's plenty serious already. Still I can see it being seriously watered-down for a more mainstream audience (I assume that's who it's going to be targetting because it's already established itself in the niche market).
Have you read the novel by the way? Considering reading it to get the full picture.

Absolutely fantastic film. I too am open minded about the remake and am really looking forward to seeing Chloe Moretz as Eli and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Oskar (or should I say Abby and Owen), especially after seeing their performances in Kick-Ass and The Road respectively. Although there is no chance the remake will come even close to matching the original. My friend has read the novel and told me there is a lot of extra material to take from though, including a couple of side stories that weren't included in the original Swedish film, so there is a good chance the remake will offer something new.
