AmericanExpress Gift Cards.

I won two American Express gift cards about two months ago and they came today. Obviously with me being from the UK no high street shops accept them. I was wondering could I use them online and what places accept them. I've tried registering on PayPal with them but it keeps getting denied or are they basically useless.
Edit; I've managed to register the gift card on Amazon, I dont if I can use it though. I dont wanna order something and then have to pay for it with my own money. Will the gift card work?

I hate dealing with American Express. I used to use my American Express card for everything, then they jacked up my interest rate and ****** me over. Now I only use my American Express business card for business puchases only and my Discover card for gas and my Visa for everything else! I know some places in Canada only accept Visa and Mastercard and most don't accept Discover.. it sucks :(
