I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post in but meh..

I want to close one of my bank accounts and move all of the money into a different one but I've lost the book thingy that came with it as I haven't used it in 3 years... I was wondering if anyone knows how'd I'd now go about closing it as I don't think they let you do anything without the book...?

If you know the account details like account number/sort code then I don't see why they wouldn't let you close it without the book. But if you don't have any of that then I think it would be best to go to the bank and ask them i'm sure they'd help:P

Asking is indeed your best bet really, as long as you can provide details that your the account owner, then you should have no worries.

I think with your account details you could either close the account or request a new bank book from which you can cancel the account. Also if you have a bank card with your pin or proof of identity, you could close it that way, that's what I did a few years ago. But yeah, like the others have said, its better to ask since they'll know what to do. I doubt you're the first person to lose your bank book :P.

They should be able to trace it by your name, date of birth and your address. Then they will probably ask you some questions to verify such as when did you last use the account. How much was in it. Otherwise if you have some interest statements you could take those with youl. You will need to produce ID though.
