View Full Version : name changes

I know this will be very hypocritical and everything else like that, but i don't care.
I think you should not allow us to get our names changed to banned accounts. For instance, i got my name changed to Blinger (which i managed to get banned). Why shouldn't you let us do it? We ****** up. We lost our rights to have that name, its a lesson to not be idiots around the forum, but if we can get our names changed to it, its pretty much "hey guess what, we'll just reset your rep and post count and you can continue on your merry way"...
please look into this.

A somewhat surprising thread from you, Shane.
In some aspects I agree, in others I don't.
Yes those people who get permanently banned are being punished and it is their fault.
But also there's a lot of other punishments thatcome with a perm.
Be interesting to see what other people think.

I am being serious about this thread by the way. If you saw my name change thread it pretty much said this "can i have my name changed to blinger? if not then blinga will do" and then i asked for just blinga, and then i read what dandaaaa posted and i asked for blinger.
It really is as i said though, reset your post count and rep and bam! you have your whole 'e-fame' back.

defeats the point in a ban

The point of the ban is you lose your account and all the posts you got on it and reputation points. Name change should be allowed.

yes, you lose your account.. the name is the main part of the account, not the posts and rep points.

if you get banned from say habbo (as this is a habbo fansite) you don't instantly email habbo and ask for your banned accounts name to be changed, and your current account to take that old name, do you? no.

It's mainly showing the stupidity of allowing people to change their account names.
If you get banned from ANY website you expect to lose that name, not rejoin 5 minutes later and re-take the name.

no you don't.
If you are not a VIP, you are only allowed to change your forum name if it's to match your Habbo Hotel UK name. To do this, PM (Private Message) Yoshimitsui and ask him for your name changed to whatever your Habbo name is. He will ask you to send him a friend request on Habbo Hotel UK to prove you are the true owner of the account.

I think if we're talking about Habbo names here then you should be allowed your Habbo name no matter what.
In my honest opinion, as the user has to achieve VIP before getting their name changed and achieving VIP is not easy and it's going to be getting a lot harder as management are tightening VIP restrictions as too much is given out, I don't like using individual examples but here I am going to, Saurav, banned almost 2 months ago rejoined on a brand new account (this in itself is punishment), he has to establish this account and something I found with Saurav, is he really didn't like the restrictions on the newer accounts (which is natural if you're used to the full features) and we saw this in feedback :P So in my opinion there the ban worked, Saurav then participated in the Habbox Election in which he put a lot of effort into, he earned his VIP well therefore in my opinion he deserved his name back.
It's the same with Blinger really, although he came back on an older account he found he still had to re-establish himself and get used to having less features than he's used to.
At the end of the day my view is to be lenient on banned members as it's so easy to permanently ban someone and then they don't come back to the forum. Just because they can be a nuisance and get themselves permed doesn't mean we want them to leave, so we shouldn't really push them away and I think helping banned members reestablish themselves is a good thing.

getting vip aint hard lol
i've had vip since last year and still have it for like 3 months due to winning competitions, 1 month a time so really isnt that hard
If an account is permd, it should be permed with nothing being changed to it. If you get permed, register, and get your old name back what the hells the point.
If someone gets permed then obviously they're doing something to piss people off so why would you want them on the forum, imho i wouldn't be lenient to banned members

I Agree on this, If you have been banned on the forum you shouldnt be allowed your old forum name back, as it will only confuse forum members
Example (Sorry to Blinger for using him as an example)
Blinger gets banned
he then creates another account and requests his name to be changed to Blinger,
That will only confuse Members especially if it was a perm ban, people would think Blinger he has been unbanned.
Which in the future may cause Havock.

This would never have been allowed in a million years 12 months ago and I wouldn't agree with members coming back and just getting a name change. But in these instances I believe that some reward for coming back and being as an asset to the forum should be rewarded and it's a nice reward.
I am inclined to agree with Rosie on this matter. It depends on the context of the situation I think. For example if SOLAR FLARE!!! came on and said I want my account name changed back to "xyz" the answer would be no. The nature of his past rule breaking and the fact that it is likely upon his return his behaviour wouldn't be ideal (i.e. posting pornography) we wouldn't be willing to grant the name change.
In a situation where a member gets a permanent ban and returns, does something to gain VIP and goes on to provide a positive contribution to the community I see no reason why we shouldn't, as a little concession to the permanent ban, grant a name change so as to acknowledge their change in character.
If I were to say "we're unbanning all permed accounts" I think some of those that oppose this might agree it's a good idea. Well I know they would... this is a less extreme concession that I think is perfectly fine providing it is exercised fairly and properly.

How is removing rep and post count a punishment? No-one is arsed about rep and i see very few, if any, comments about post count these days. Resetting the join date is somewhat a punishment but not as much as losing the name of the account. I still haven't got it into my head that doherty is immenseman and im sure it takes a lot of others a few seconds before it clicks too. That's the punishment imo.

That is what I was thinking. It just looks like the person has been unbanned and that can only lead to unrest later on. I don't see why a Habbo name should hold any substance in regard to effectively decreasing the punishment. You can argue that the name being lost isn't the main punishment but it is still one of the punishments that comes with a ban. In any case, seeing a name knocking about that was supposedly banned indefinitely just makes the whole system look weak and gives the impression to newer members that bans are no big deal so they probably won't care about getting one.
