Vegetarianism is the practice of following a plant-based diet including fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, nuts, and seeds, with or without dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat meat, including: red meat, game, poultry, fish, crustacea, shellfish, and products of animal slaughter such as animal-derived gelatin and rennet

Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle whose adherents seek to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind

Dont think i need to explain meat eater to you lol

Neither of the things listed above. I'm an omnivore. I eat meat when I feel like it, while a carnivore will seek to eat only meat but will eat vegetables and other alternatives if they cannot seek meat. Basically the definition of a hooman ;)

Not really, my Dad is vegetarian and my Mum is vegan so obviously for the first couple of years I'd be clueless but it was my choice after that.

Well I was pretty much a "vegetarian" until about a year ago, except I ate fish.

But now I eat fish and chicken, but can't stand the thought of eating a little piggy or a cow or a lamb :(

but hardly ever eat fish at home, and don't think my mum even knows I've ever eaten any meat ha.

Hardly debatable, if we weren't made to eat it we simply wouldn't :P In other words, we wouldn't be able digest it (with vegetables or anything else on the side) or get nutrients out of it.

Not purposely attempting to talk in a gross manner, but if we weren't meant to eat meat, it would come out "the other end" near whole, which it doesn't, the body attempts to digest it like anything else. In theory, vegetation is less likely to be digested, many vegetables "come out" near whole and are far from completely digested. Alternatives to meat need to be consumed in larger quanitities, as our bodies simply cannot extract every last nutrient and only really use them as waste material. Humans are also designed to expel rubbish out faster than quite alot of animals, so alot of nutrients need to be consumed in one go that can be of some use. Of course, eating just meat is bad for you, as we are not designed to eat JUST meat, but a balanced diet of meat and vegetables, seeds/nuts/grain and fruit is what we are designed to eat. A diet without meat isn't bad for you, just means the body needs to consome more. However, as with everything in life, it varies from person to person. Talking to a fitness instructor or nutritionist will provide such answers :)

Tis a science.

Tis a science.Yeah of course we can eat it. The body takes an awful long time to digest meats though it has to be said, over 24 hours I believe when compared to everything else we consume that's a long time. The body can also live easily without it and I hear the human teeth only adapted to eat meat rather than naturally doing it.

I don't think it's quite as clear cut as calling it "hardly debatable" though, I haven't really researched the topic much but it seems both sides have points.

GommeInc

If we couldn't digest it, it would be expelled within a couple of hours as the body rejects it. Lions for example, take a long time to digest their food. Meat naturally takes hours to digest, though some animals when they accidentally consume it will reject it. Quite alot of discussion has been put into it, comparing the human body to that of other animals of either carnivorous(sp?), herbivor or omnivorous nature. We're one of few animals that have a wide palette compared to many out there.

Meat-eater :D I love trying new foods and stuff and i think being a vegetarian might limit that :(
I do feel a tiny bit guilty when I see the little lambs skipping around outside my bedroom window but if I didn't eat meat there will always be a high demand for it so it's not stopping the animals being killed anyway

For example, I only eat organic meat which has had a good life and has been killed humanely.

That's the thing, you can never be sure. For example some of stuff my friend was telling me; there are or were more "free-range" chickens on the shop shelves than there is capacity for in farms!

You're right and there's always an aspect that they're not going to be organic. But buying food from the expensive supermarkets, waitrose for example, means that it probably will be organic if it says its organic.

Carnivore is not the appropriate term for someone who eats meat.
A carnivorous animal is one which has evolved to eat meat. An animal which has evolved to eat plants is a herbivore. An animal which has evolved to eat both is an omnivore.
Strictly speaking every one of us is an omnivore, whether you choose not to eat meat or not. That is where the term vegetarian comes in, it implies choice. You wouldn't say that a specific type of animal is a vegetarian, because that implies that it chooses not to eat meat, which would again be wrong because animals don't have that capability. In the same way, people who eat meat are not carnivores because they choose to eat meat. If anything they are omnivores, but there isn't a classification for people who eat meat as opposed to vegetarians (although meat eaters, like you said, seems reasonable).

Anyway I eat meat.

Quite an interesting fact. There just isn't enough room in the UK for all our chickens to be free-range. Sadly.
