There are viruses out there but it's rare to get them.

... which comes with a firewall you should have switched on.

Aside from the firewall, I take it you don't exchange many files with Windows users.

Nothing, anti viruses software are useless.

Mind you, a firewall is needed unless you got a good router.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall and what the router has.

Most routers have built in firewalls for inbound connections.

I've got no protection on my Mac (main computer)

Reason is, all the AVs are to stop PC malware (ie. if you're sharing files with them).
There's no reason to use any protection at the moment since most trojans require the user to be really stupid.

No. I don't download crap.

And even people who are very computer efficent and security concious can get infections. Its always better being safe than sorry. I use BitDefender total security for antivirus, antispyware, firewall and also a pit of tune up, have windows firewall off because it doesn't really do much. I also have my routers built in firewall.

Jake, the one who probably downloads hundreds of total crap which has a 50% chance of having a virus in it has no anti virus?

If you get your stuff from reliable sources and watch the comments etc you don't need antivirus.
