Google has again been accused of invading privacy after secretly collecting details of millions of home wi-fi connections to help it sell adverts.
The search engine giant mapped every wireless internet connection in the country and now uses the data to make money.
Google staff in specially adapted cars collected the signals from inside residents' homes as they toured the country for the company's Street View project.
They were able to record the location of every router and wireless network without telling anyone because wi-fi signals spill out from inside homes on to the street.

Not really bothered. What are they gonna do with it?

I don't have an issue with it. Google came out and admitted their mistakes and apologised as they didn't seem to know about it. (I believe)

Google is Google, they are a great company and they won't like do anything that will harm you really. :P

They can't really do anything with the info anyway. There's nothing to worry about.

This is such old news, it's not going to be used for anything and they've apologized.

And what? It's public information.

Old news is old. If people are stupid enough to leave their wifi unencrypted they deserve whatever they have coming to them.

Did you not read the article? it said no where about data being stolen or anything, just using wifis to depict where you are as a location...

and 'Old news' isn't old to me... It's the first time I've seen it, I read it in the paper so posted it here for discussion, not to be told that it is old news.

This is why news papers should be abandoned in favour of the internet in the next.. oohh I dunno, 10 years.

But w/e, I don't care if they had our MAC address, our wireless is so weak at the road that it's not worth bothering.

The fact that they got it means that anyone could get it, it's hardly super sensitive information.

I think I heard about this like a month ago :P

I'm not sure how they can *accidentally* collect this kind of information, apparently the cars were loaded with the wrong version of their software.

Personally I'm not too bothered since my wifi's secured, and how much information they already have about you, ie. from google search, gmail, etc.
