I'm curious because there's not much to eat instead of meat, for say dinners or is there?

You can get meat supplements like Quorn which is like meat but it has no animals involved as it's made from Bacteria and Soya etc... Also meat is a tiny proportion of food, if you think about it 80% of foods contains non-meats, you can have pasta, potato loads it's only ever one element of the dinner the meat.... However supplemented with something from Quorn or Linda McCartney for example brings the meal together.

what i don't get is that vegetarians don't eat meat yet they go out of their way to find products that are like meat (quorn etc). why would you want to eat fake meat?

those soya beans that made ur quorn are living organisims just as much as cows r.

Know you can get mercury poisoning if you eat a lot of fish as a vegetarian? Talking about years of eating fish though but still, it happens.

I did. Isn't that because of the mercury in the food that the fish eat which then gets passed on to you?

*Removed* food, that's the only thing non-meat eaters can eat.

If you eat fish as a vegetarian, you're not a vegetarian, you're a Pescetarian.

My vegie mate was saying how he found out he can't even eat some sort of cheese (think it might have been from Subway) because of how it's made. And then there's chips if they're cooked in the same stuff meat is cooked in - they will get stuff on them from the meat.

An even better one; apparently Smoky Bacon crisps are suitable for vegetarians but some other flavour (like Cheese & Onion or something) isn't!!

because some meats contain iron you need to take iron tablets to stop you from becoming anaemic

---------- Post added 03-06-2010 at 08:30 AM ----------

if you eat fish and no other meats your pescatarian
If you eat no meat but dairy products your vegetarian
If you eat no products of animals (meat cheese milk etc ) Then your a Vegan

yeah in cheese they use something called rennet in the process of making it, and some cheeses use rennet made out of the lining of an animal stomach, om nom nom!
and yeah, say if your like frying chicken, and then use the same oil to fry chips then all the stuff that comes out the chicken while your cooking it goes onto the chips. I guess that one's more a matter of principle rather than eating meat or not though.

and yeah, I never used to eat anything that had been touched by meat, so for example if I went to someones house and they made me a ham and cheese sandwich, then realised I was vegetarian and took the ham out, I wouldn't even touch it ha.

My best friend eats lots of meat and she's more anaemic than I am, so being a vegetarian does not equal being anaemic.

I know one of my friends who is also vegetarian takes iron pills. Sometimes I take this drink called floradix which is an iron supplement with added vitamins which is pretty minging, however most of the time I just eat lots green leafy vegetables and I'm generally ok :)

those soya beans that made ur quorn are living organisims just as much as cows r.That's a bit of a myth tbh, it really doesn't taste like meat it just looks like it, try some and you'll realise :)

Plus vegetarians don't eat animals not "living organisms" which essentially make up all foods.

Like, potatoes with veg etc. you can also have pasta but without the little bits of meat. Cheese toasties or something for breakfast, sandwich for lunch then the potato thing for dinner.

I'm slowly starting to understand the world of the vegetarian. But another weird thing is that my mate found out something wasn't vegetarian after he ate it, but he wasn't bothered. So basically it must be just a matter of principle with him rather than the physical thing of touching/eating meat.
