Was just wondering, would it be possible to have a new section/sub-forum created for 'Post your' threads.
They're not completely annoying, but sometimes do overrun the forum which is a little irritating.
Not sure where'd you go with this ;p

Agreed.
Post counts wouldn't even have to increase in them, but it would be pretty cool.
Maybe even just a subforum under spam?

They do tend to lower Discuss Anything into the realms of Spam even though it is one of the best sections of the forum for some good discussion. 'Post your...' threads are on par with forum games in my eyes - they more often than not require short one or two word responses and offer little to none discussion value. But as they aren't actually games, a sub-forum in Spam is a very logical course of action methinks.

HabboxForum is trying to reduce the number of forums so I dont think it will be likely to happen. Its best to have them in Forum Games instead of a sub-forum in Spam as its not really "spam".

Ohh forgot about Forum Games :P
I'm sure there was a ban on these once and if you wanted to have a post your thread you had to PM a mod or something...

There was strict rules on "Post Your" threads when Professor-Alex was Forum Manager. (Although he blames MAD for it) where you had to have permission from the Forum Manager to get it posted. When that happened I believe a few people got banned for like 24 hours or something for going against management. I think a Moderator got fired as well! :P

amgaz tragedy.
Erm, as you are a member of the tech forum are you talking about the tech "Post your" threads?
My main concern is that they aren't actually that bad of threads really and the decent ones tend to be stuck at the top of the forum and separate from the other discussion threads anyway.
Will evaluate this upon user reaction to this thread.

I believe he is on about these ones:
What websites do you have bookmarked?
Which Search Engine do you use?
Which email service do you use?
Which Web Browser do you use?
Do you read any online blogs?

I think the main problem with these threads is when a million and one get posted at once, if they were posted in a more sporadic way I doubt they'd cause much problem.
I'm not going to stop people making such threads because I think it's a silly idea, to create a sub forum for them individually - I believe the sub forum woul dbe quite inactive and as we like to keep as minimal forums as possible, I don't think this is a plausible idea.

my threads that were only one word answers were moved to spam. some of those should be too.

Discuss Anything should be for proper discussions, never for short ones like "Yes I use Google.".

I would have thought a thread about search engines would be in "Technology & the Web" :P
After looking on the first page of 'Discuss Anything' I'm quite pleased with some of the discussions occurring - in comparison to threads posted in recent weeks.

Your thread about gun laws interested me quite a bit, I even wrote quite a long reply then got an internal 500 :'(
I've just edited all the threads posted in the tech section which could be answered with one word and asked for people to explain their answers - however it appears that a good number of our tech users are quite mature and exampes set by MattGarner, Recursion, Preposterous and the OP himself have all posted longer answers than simple one words - so as long as every post isn't going to be a one word answer I don't see a huge problem

It was just an example Mr. FM as there have been similar ones to that :P

Tbh most the post your threads, apart from 'setup' and 'desktop' are crap. I subscribe to all threads automatically, and posting in these is annoying, the fact that most the time there is NO discussion whatsoever, which kind of ruins the point in a forum. People literally go in post 'yes pasta is good' then never post again. Imo that is verging on pointless - afterall you are/were not allowed to say 'yeh nice update' or something, as that would be seen as pointless.
I mean this doesn't particularly bother me, as they are just threads, but I do think many of them are pointless.
How about introducing some rules which forbid 'limited discussion' threads unless stated otherwise. That's bringing back an old rule almost I know, but just a suggestion.

I just feel that's a bit too harsh - we like to be lenient in our moderation and practically telling people they can't post posts shorter than X, it's just too much for my liking if you get me?
Well not posts shorter that 'X' but threads which encourage short posting. (Examples in Tech forum where it's post your search engine) Most answers are 'google'.

I edited those threads in tech asking nicely for users to respond to the threads with reasons why. I think it'd be good to encourage - but not enforce - users who create these threads to place it their OP "explain why". I know Samsta has started doing this lately and it's generating a better discussion :)
A mod can always edit a thread to say state reasons for opinions if they believe the thread is simple turning into a one-word answer post count bumping spree.

This might sound extreme but hear me out :P What about limiting the amount of threads a member can create in a single forum over a specified period of time? For example no more than 3 threads in an hour in the same forum. Think about it - how often have you ever seen someone post more than a few threads in quick succession which *haven't* been the short effortless type? It's probably almost never. A rule like this may have influenced a member to make one thread about search engines, browsers and emails rather than three separate ones for let's face it, an extra pip on the post count.

Yeah but like I said, when does anyone post more than a few threads in the same place which ALL contain good quality discussion topics? I've just been doing it now but I don't remember the last time I saw it done...

Never lol. I mean I can see why Jake would HATE this rule, as his post count comes from these 'effortless' threads.
But many of them are annoying UNLESS people are explaining why.
Perhaps thread creators have to post 'Explain Why' - that way if people DON'T explain then surely it would be pointless posting.

I'm not gonna restrict how many threads a member can make in a certain time - that's a tad ridiculous. Here I am talking about being liberal and lenient and now there's suggestions to tell members how many threads they can post and where :P

Well there needs to be something to stop people taking the piss because it just makes the forum look like a dump :P
