Dear me. What a shame.

I think we should be really worried. Sure, King is an able replacement, been much better than Ferdinand this year. However, I am not comfortable thinking that King might not be able to play games in quick succession and we'd have to resort to Dawson / Upson / Carragher who I really don't think are good enough. If King can't play pace is going to be a real real problem imo. Worrying. Our defence has been poor under Capello anyway.

However, these players are in the squad for a reason so fingers crossed.

Rio is a brilliant player, but it could be a blessing in disguise- he's not been at his best lately. Shame though, seems like a nice guy and he is undoubtedly gutted.

He's just so comfortable on the ball, more so than any of our other CDs.

Is this confirmed now? Latest I heard nothing has been fully confirmed, although he did leave the hospital on crutches:

This was his only chance to lead England to a WC. Not gona happen again so I feel bad for him. I don't think we should start Dawson, not experienced enough.

Carra/King to rotate I think.

Yes it's confirmed, Check SSN :)

Only thing Heskey can do now to make me love him even more is bang a goal in! Seeing Steven Gerrard lifting the World Cup would be indescribable for me.

Wonder if I'll bump into Rio at Theo's barbie (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=128661873827109&ref=ts)?

Shame for England, and Rio. He's an excellent player, and gave me more confidence knowing he was in the back four. However, with carraghers return and young Dawson, i dont think it will end up that bad, should be an excellent chance for players to shine.

But it's bad news all around for teams in the worldcup. Balack(Germany)/Drogba(Ivory Coast)/Mickel(Nigeria) & Altidore(USA) - All injured.

It's just a shame nobody from Spain is injured!

Go research their injuries.

King will be one of the players of the tournament. Mark my words.

Essien is out too. Shame, Ivory Coast probably had the best chance to go far.

King will have a good tournament, he was dodgy against Mexico but he's been one of the CB's of the season IMO. Just imagine how good he'd be without the injuries.

but the injuries are there and if we progress out of the group i can't see him playing in such quick succession

Best news of the tournament so far! (Other than Scotland not qualifying!)

The bitters in this thread is hilarious. Come now, Ferdinand was always going to be 1st choice, he's comfortable on the ball, he's experienced at international level and he knows how to play with Terry. It IS disappointing Ferdinand won't be going.

Any genuine England fan would feel the same way. I hate Jamie Carragher so much, he's the most disrespectful footballer and what he has said about England in previous years is disgusting. However, I don't want him to be injured for the benefit of England as a whole.

Lass - France
Drogba - Ivory Coast
Ballack - Germany
Robben - Holland
Pirlo - Italy
Ferdinand - England
Mikel - Nigeria?

I think that's it so far. A Lot of injuries to key players. Robben and Drogba could still play I think though.

Cesar injured himself the other day for Brazil, don't know the extent of it though. Altidore is a doubt too. Suazo for Chile too.

Can't see this making too much of an impact, i think Capello should fly R' Adam out tonight.

Palacios just gone off on a stretcher for Honduras, why is it all the good players for each country getting injured?

All we need now is the Spanish and Brazilian to get an injury.
