Would it be possible to change the amount of time you can edit a post before it says "Edited by..."?

It's annoying when you make a spelling mistake and you fix it in about 1 minute and it says edited by :(

I think I have OCD, the message annoys me :P

Hmm I don't think thats a good idea, it's quite helpful for moderators to see the edit history and changing the time would remove that.

Huh? You want the little message removed? I love that about HxF :D I hate other forums that don't have it D:

Yeah, it can be quite annoying at times but as James has said, it's really quite essential for moderation purposes. If we need to quickly check the post history for that post, then clicking this link will take us straight to it. It's also quite useful, as it displays the time it was edited- that way you can tell if someone has added something to a post since the time it was created. A minute is already quite a long time for the edit mark to not appear, since a lot can be edited within this time. I don't see the benefits of making this higher, as it could make thing worse for moderation purposes.

I think extending the time any longer wouldn't make too much difference really, and that it's just a minor little addition to the post at the end of the day.

Sometimes you can beat the system if you are fast enough! ;) Haha but what Jamesy/Martin has said pretty much answers it. :P

Even having it at a minute has caused problems for moderators, for instance:

- Someone posts a naughty posts
- Moderator spots it immediately and issues infraction

BUT

by the time the infraction is issued the post has already been edited (cause the person saw the mod looking and didnt want an infraction) so the infraction then comes through with no evidence that the rule was ever broken as it doesn't store the edit history prior to the 1 minute boundary.

So quite simply, it causes (very rare) problems already, so I'm not willing to increase it :P

Unless theres a way you can edit the template that checks how long ago it was edited to display the message. So the message is there, just isn't shown (to reg users). That way it still displays the message, just hidden :P

Could do but thats a bit of a fuss for a tiny message at the bottom of the post that's not very obvious to start with :P

Having said that if one suspects that might happen it is very easy to report and then a permanent record is there for evidence before editing just in case. :)

The same thing would occur, the posts are edited so quickly nobody has time to do anything :P

1 minute is more than enough time tbh. 1 time me and lindsey were posting pictures of guys in the HxHD staff forums and well when I posted one of the pictures i suddenly realised it was a male with his 'bits' out. I was able to find a new picture and edit that post within the 1 minute time slot. Luckily no one saw it and it was just my silly mistake, but 1 minute surely must be more than enough time to edit a typo or a spelling mistake.

Make the message look prettier / Less obvious? or can't you just allow it to display for admins?

I can beat it pretty easily if it's just a simple edit but I'm sure the time slot is smaller than it used to be..

Yet you don't have the hat... O_o

To be honest, what's the issue here? I find it quite useful to see if a post has been edited sometimes.

I do find it sort of useful, because there's no need to write 'Edit:' any more as long as you just leave a bit of a gap it's sort of obvious. But still it's annoying when you edit one little typo and it makes out that you've edited the whole post :P
