It's a hotel chain aimed mainly at the business people, also the economic depression hit the hotel industry the worst with occupancy rates dropping to 50% and in some hotels even under 50%.

All Marriott Hotels are 5* or 4*. Also Marriott is not the only brand. The other brands which are owned by the Marriott brand are

Marriott Hotels & Resorts
JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts
Renaissance Hotels & Resorts
EDITION Hotels
Autograph Collection
Courtyard
Residence Inn
Fairfield Inn
Marriott Conference Centers
TownePlace Suites
SpringHill Suites
Marriott Vacation Club International
The Ritz-Carlton
Marriott ExecuStay
Marriott Executive Apartments

Some brands are catered for different styles of Guests. Renaissance/Ritz-Carlton/EDITION/JW Marriott/Autograph are all the high flying luxury hotels, whereas Towneplace is for long stays, and Courtyard is the cheaper brand which is for everyone pretty much.

That wouldn't be the fault of the Hotel, but more of the guest. You can always contact Front Desk and they would be happy to either relocate you, upgrade you or sort your problem out. Dependent on occupancy rate.

No I'm saying if you want a 5* Hotel, choose a different brand of Marriott Hotels. I have stated which brands are luxury 5* Hotels.

O.o It would be dependent on what brand you stay at as to what service you would have got. Most Marriott Brands will have mugs, also if you stayed in a courtyard by Marriott they've recently had a revamp as a brand and now offer a lot more for a reasonable rate, which also meant that their star rating at some hotels have increased.

This is assuming that you are somehow related to this hotel, but don't you think that naturally workers would be bias towards you and say they like working there if you are related to someone who wields power there? I don't think they would say they hated it there or that it was crap to, of all people, you. That is assuming that you are related to this chain of hotels and that what I have picked up from this thread is correct, of course.

Well I've not only spoken to employees who seem genuine enough, there are Facebook Pages for Marriott employees who constantly praise Marriott for the great working conditions. Also the fact Marriott has won an award for being one of the best places to work, which is voted by employees, shows that employees of Marriott International must enjoy working there.

Its easy for people to deceive you, you shouldn't take what everyone says at face value. Like I said, people would naturally be bias to someone who is related to their employer. As for Facebook pages, I searched a good few pages and didn't come across any which praised Marriott, just the locations of some of the hotels. I feel the need to point out that getting awards and Facebook pages does not necessitate that it is 'more of a family than a job', which is what you stated.

The Marriott Hotel brand is widely recognised in the American market, rather than the UK Market, with 2,500 hotels in the USA alone, it's understandable that some people may not have heard of them. However Marriott is also in 4th position with the amount of hotels worldwide, behind BestWestern, Intercontinental and Wyndham Worldwide. Marriott being the fourth biggest hotel chain by number of Hotels in the world makes it a very prominent hotel chain and if you mention the name to most people they would have either heard Marriott, or one of the Marriott Brands. Y'all can not say that you've never heard of Ritz-Carlton, or as most people would call it, 'The Ritz'

Grig

It's recognized in Asia too. However far from the best chain I've stayed at, they ******* rob you for everything. Although, nowadays I tend to swerve away from luxury hotels and stay more in lodges as I backpack more for a greater time.

It was inevitable that they would raise prices, I can't say I'm surprised as other hotels do the same thing.

I don't really think it's "disgusting" that they have raised rates - obviously as a company they need to make money and if they see a potential opportunity, they're gonna go for it.

We've stayed at a lot of the Marriott hotels in Florida, Fairfield Inn, Renaissance, Courtyard, ExecuStay and also the regular Marriott hotels. Fairfield is considered to be at the cheaper end of the market yet we have found them to be the best equipped (fridge, coffee, ice, free wifi, etc). However if you were to pay top notch for a top Marriott hotel, you'd be expected to pay extra for the fridge, wifi, coffee machine.

In that case, I don't think it's fair to group all Marriott hotels under one roof as they are all totally different.

And on Jord's point about their staff being a "family", I recently read a book by Lee Cockerell called "The Great Leader Strategies" - he was the one who first started the staff interaction at Marriott hotels and I must admit, from reading his book it does seem like a very good company to work for. From Marriott, he moved on to work at Disney which is also ranked one of the top in the best places to work.

My relatives own Marriott International which owns the Ritz-Carlton Hotel chain, after it almost went bankrupt. Although you are thinking of The Ritz London, which is a privately owned hotel operating underneath the Ritz-Carlton Brand. I also have a relative who owns another company called Host Hotels, also known as Host Marriott, which is essentially a lodging real estate company, who owns hotels yet allows brands to use the hotels.

Stephen, 48, has a rare muscular disorder that has left him hearing-impaired and blind, and he works on culture issues and special events. John, 46, was head of lodging but left the company two years ago to run his family's investments. That leaves David as the only Marriott offspring working on day-to-day operations. "

Funniest thing ever. Massive respect to Jen for this LOL

Marriott seriously at least make your lies believable. And pretending to be related to a hotel chain owner who is rich is, erm, pathetic. ul

EDIT: Anyone else noticed since this thread was made Marriott has gone down a rep power? Apparently people are unhappy with him.
