View Full Version : Is this totally worth it, or do you recommend other cheaper sites?

So, I was looking for a high-end gaming computer, infact, it more of fits into a NASA computer.
The avg. NASA computer is like $4500 and high-end gaming computer is $2300, so ya'no, but anyway.
I'm English, so I don't know how to translate that currency stuff, my budget is £2300, and I found this for £2381

Intel i7 Quad Core 2.8 overclocked @ 3.8Ghz (Never had an overclocked one before, so I had to get better cooling etc)
2x Radeon 5970 2GB Each (4GB Total) <--Got them because they're like the most expensive and best on the market...
12 GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM (Yeah.. 12 GB, but that was the only option it had for the O.C ones)
1TB Hard Drive (Would have got a 64GB SSD, but can't have everything, right? :D)
1500W PSU (I only need a 1200W for the full build, but just to be on the safe side, for future upgrades etc...)
A.L.C Liquid CPU Cooler (Needed a good one because of the O.C and other stuff)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Total Price = £2381

So... Thinking of getting this, should I? Or does anyone know a fairly cheaper site or anything?
Origonally I was only meant to be getting a like £900 home stuff computer, but then when I looked at GTA IV and Crysis graphics on them kinds, I was like... Well, you know how it is, it goes from £900 to £1500, then to £2000 then to £2300... :)

Anyway, anyone know a cheaper site? I don't mind paying for this, could gladly do it, just want to know whether I could get a better deal before running into something like that beast NASA thing. :l

Also, should I get an iPhone 4G when they come out in a few months, or wait for them to come out and 3GS to go down? And should I get an iPad? :D
Oh and, if I buy from this site I am so getting this case...

I just fell in love with it straight away when I saw it.

how on earth are we supposed to know whether a gaming computer/ipad/iphone is more appropriate to you. We may know our stuff but we can't evaluate your life style to what you need most, there's only so much we can help you with. you surely know what you need most in your life?

Is it really important to you playing Crysis/GTA IV on near enough maximum specs, you'll have to have a decent 30" monitor to notice the frame-rates and quality etc, if not it's total overkill. And why anyone would spend £2300 on a computer which would take an age to boot thanks to it's 1TB HDD I'm not sure but that might just be me, I'd go down the RAID route or SSDs.

A second graphics card wont make a huge difference either nor will 12GB RAM when gaming.

As I said, it wouldn't let me go lower than 12 GB, and the iPad was a totally different question, I just thought that I shouldn't flood the forums with all of the questions...

And it's not just them 2 games, obviously, what would be the point in spending £2300 on playing GTAIV+Crysis? :l
Furthermore, I'm still considering the SSD, I don't know anything about RAIDs, I'll research them later, but if I do get an SSD, would 80GB be alright? :)

I know you'll do more than that but I'm just saying unless you've got the TV/monitor etc too you're just going overkill and won't experience the best of these games.

It does seem like over-kill buying this PC. 12 GB is a lot, even though you can't go any lower with that website like you said.

It's hard to suggest anything really, I do not own Crysis or GTA IV for I'm not all that aware of the type of Graphics Card, but you could try building your own or maybe looking somewhere else, though I know of no where that sells computers with two PCI-E sockets, not for a good price at least :/

I was thinking of getting the multiple monitors, but the thick lines in the middle where they're connected are a total turn-off and a distraction when playing games :L

I guess I might just have to stick with a 32" then... Unless I could just not buy the monitor from the site, and go hunt for a bigger one if I can find one.
Or play on a HD TV with a HDMI? :S

Does playing on a massive HD TV with a HDMI Wire thing have any disadvantages? :S

TVs don't have as high a resolution as computer monitors, stick with an LCD.

You don't need 12GB, 6GB maybe, heck even 8GB at a push, but no, not 12.

To be honest, if I was you, I'd build it myself from scratch, and shop around for the different parts to find where I can get what cheapest, when I built my rig I bought from Overclockers.co.uk, Ebuyer.co.uk, Novatech.co.uk, Aria.co.uk and Scan.co.uk :)

By "Stick with an LCD" does that meen I'd be better off, like they have higher res?

I was looking at the massive ones like 40" or 42", but they're mostly like 1080p or 1920...
Might just stick with a 32" then :L
Bad times, bad times....

3 thin bezeled 22/23/24" monitors will look much nicer than a 32" TV.

What's your budget for the monitors + computer?

Muct

Budget for the monitors? Ermmm...
I wont pay a hella lot just for one monitor, but if I get multiples I'll be aiming for ermm... (I dont even know the avg. price so.)
Well, after about 20 minutes of thinking, I couldn't come up with one... :/
I'm really bad at stuff like this...
I'll be rooting around for them myself, but help would be appreciated, seeing as all I do is go around in circles on Arbico :/
Oh, and budget for the actual build is £2300
That excludes the monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse etc...

Just like to point out that case is built around a specific motherboard designed to support 4 way SLI (dual slot coolers) with two extra PCI slots...

That meen I can't have it?
By the way, I'm buying from this:
http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

On the O.C Section (Overclocking Section) at the <----Side
They have other ones too, but they mostly all have a glass window at the side, and it just makes it ugly seeing all the wiring and fans in it :/
how about the Coolermaster HAF 932?

HAF932 is fine, but as I say, I think you should build it yourself.

Well, bit young for it tbh, I might know a tiny bit about computers, but I'm like still in high school, so ya'no...
Anyway, the 932 is ugly, I like the big, thick tall ones, this is just.... Well, dead thin and tall. :S

Oh well, I'd rather have this then a glass case :/

It's not that hard, I built my first computer when I was 6/7!

Age is no reason not to have a go, its like lego, all you do is snap the bits together and you have a computer :)

You're suggesting IPS panels to a gamer? Gamer = TN panels.

I doubt this thread is real, but get 6gb of RAM (3*2gb) instead of 12gb if it is.

IPS panels just seem different to TN too, they're not good for gaming. Yes, I have one.

Why do you think it's a fake thread, exactly, what do I have to gain by lieing about playing GTA IV on a Radeon 5970x2? :S
I'm sorry, I know you're probably not trying to cause an argument, but what exactly DO I have to gain by lieing about having a powerful graphcs card and over 4 GB of RAM?
It hardly deserves 10 o'clock News, does it? :S I see no reason to lie... :S

OT: I'll send an e-mail to the company, I sent one about their AMDs the other day and got a reply within like a day, so I'll just ask if its possible to get 6 GB RAM, if not I'll push for 8GB.

EDIT: Yup, I know its expansive, but that's only because I've had the crappiest PCs in the past, and this is specially for gaming. :D
Double EDIT: I have to ask, and I'm going to ask here... is that actually you in your siggy and picture? :/ You've had a set of them, so ya'no, bit curious.

And did I or did I not just say I will e-mail about the 12 GB RAM?
And I've been searching for Above 30" monitors, and even Quad Monitors! :S

You need to go for a multiple of 3. The new i5/i7 CPUs can utilize memory in a triple channel setup, hence why I suggested 6gb. If they can't do 6gb, go for 12gb.

Take it from me, I have triple monitors, don't bother with anymore than 1 for gaming. Full screen things don't like multiple monitors.

K... So, any suggestions for monitors? Preferably over 30"... Ill be looking out too.
I just went on the LIVE CHAT too, they said they can't do a cut from 12GB to 6 GB when it's a fixed setting for that O.C computer.
Well, it's not that much of a difference in price anyway, I would have bet that if it was possible I would have been charged a bit more for the inconvenience.
I wasn't really keen on double monitors myself either, the black lines in the middle where they're connected are a turnoff.
Unless I read your post wrong and you're favouring them :D

I'm not sure about monitors that size, but be looking for a TN panel for gaming and if you're not concerned about colour accuracy. This is the BEST site for monitors: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/

Fair enough, I would say go for 12GB then.

I love my triple monitors, but I'm a developer and I personally find them annoying for the limited amount of gaming I do. Up to you though I guess!

Meh, I'll sort out the monitor when I actually buy the computer, unless anyone comes up with a suggestion.
