I really don't see the point in having groups. Hardly anybody uses them anymore and they just seem a waste of space. They were fun when first introduced, now like nobody uses them anymore. Think they should be removed

Tbh I never liked them. They are really pointless. I don't see the need for them.

I agree to be fair, I don't think it is worth keeping them.

Said this from the start :)

They are stupid, if people want to talk to each other about certain things that is what the forum is for surely? All they do is tell people to use them instead of post..

The awards will be the same imo.

I disagree. Firstly I don't think it's a good idea to be adding useful features to the forum and then taking them away as soon as people get bored. Secondly, groups allow for more freedom than simply posting on the forum. They're meant for collectively sharing interests and I can't see them doing any harm. Newer members might also enjoy them, as most of you did when they were new.

Why not a 'tags' thing for interests? A bit like on habbo?

An name me 3 useful things about groups. I personally don't think 'MATT-GARNER APPRECIATION GROUP' is much use. But still.

P.S. Sorry Matt - had a look at the how groups thing earlier and thats what group appeared lol

yeah i agree... to many people were allowed create to many pointless ones and it became stupid and boring. i think they were almost expecting it to be some sort of feature that would get the forum popular again and more posts etc and it didnt work........

Perhaps the group doesn't have to be of 'much use', but at the end of the day it's a bit of fun. Groups add to the whole social aspect of the forum and I think that, particularly with the merge, they are a good feature to have when trying to encourage new members to sign up and stick around.

i dont really see how making a group is fun... if you think it is, then thats your own thing. it does nothing.... there are too many pointless ones and i really doubt new users would care about the feature. and for the "social aspect"... how :S no one posts in the discussions made so i don't see how it helps

The groups had good intention of adding a bit of fun and variety to the forum but right now, they're very much like the Blogs and the Chat. They can't be that appealing either as I've never joined or started one!

If they're taking up space or whatever they should be the first thing to remove, but it doesn't look very professional if they are being removed after they've only been added.

They're all pointless

I agree with OP.

I don't see how new members are going to find groups appealing, they're just something to look at and have died down, not fussed either way.

I've found groups to be difficult to get right on numerous forums.

I think it's a good idea, but i'm put off making one, knowing that once i've used them up, I can never make one ever again.

I think it's way too premature to completely remove social groups considering they have only been installed a couple of months.

In all honesty it's probably the fault of myself and other people who contributed to the project as we didn't really do much, it was like, set it up, tell users about it and leave them to it.

The thing is nothing works like that, we shouldn't have expected it to be successful straight away, well of course it was popular immediately as anything new is popular immediately and a lot of groups got made (just like we got hundreds of awards requests yesterday) - the point is we need to maintain it to ensure popularity increases.

Super Moderators don't pay much attention to groups - which is a bad thing as they still need moderating and I'll admit it, I neglect them too, perhaps if we had an award or something for "Group of the Month" and gave out prizes it would boost the activity of them, but quite frankly they aren't looking too good at the moment due to neglect by Management, and I can only blame myself there :P

We're looking to launch a campaign next month involving absolutely lots - it's going to be pretty explosive, and I will add groups promotion into that campaign and hopefully they'll kick off a bit more - if not after that then we'll consider removing them, but it's way too early to consider moving them this early on.

Now that's a rarity, a Manager posting in feedback slating himself :P

Although, they don't get used that often, they're a handy feature to have.

Since they don't even get used that much, they won't even cost any extra to keep.

And it's also a rarity for a manager to refuse to admit the feature was a mistake. And clearly that still isn't going to happen.

I cannot see how STOPPING users posting on the forum can EVER be seen as good.

The feature wasn't a mistake, it just simply wasn't carried out properly and I am not going to give up on something because it doesn't work well in a few months. Groups has a huge potential on a fansite like this.

It's not stopping people posting on the forums at all, it gives an opportunity to post somewhere else in a different style and adds variety to Habbox Forum - as I have said if done correctly it would be an excellent feature.

I'm glad you realise you didn't promote it properly / do anything with it :)

I say leave it, but promote it.

I just checked out the forum after not being around for awhile and saw them
they do look really pointless and boring

I see no problem with them, with some activity (especially from the group owner) you can get them fairly big in size and it also adds a bit of individualism to everybodys accounts when looking at somebodys profiles. Just because they arent being used in a frenzy doesnt mean they arent a un-used feature - I click on many peoples profiles and some are members of various groups - not to mention the mock election Habbox held which spawned activity in the groups section and added a bit of fun to the forum. Why take away something just because you may not use them or like them? - I see nothing you cannot like about them, they are hidden and are a choice.

Oli got it spot on (and I've been saying it for a while now). It just needs promotion.

I don't see how they're any different from Facebook groups (or fan pages) and on FB people only really join them to make it appear on their friends' News Feed because they find them funny. Everybody hates it when the group owners start posting random updates that nobody cares about. The difference with Habbox Groups is obviously that there is no news feed so people just join them and that's that - what else can you do? Any discussion that could take place within a group could as easily take place on the forum and would probably involve more people.

Just my two cents really, I'm yet to see the point of them :P
