Speedtest hasn't been right for me for some time, I'm on a "Up to 20mb" broadband package but speedtest keep telling me I'm on something rather silly like 130!

But what Nick has said is correct, the speeds aren't his true internet speeds he is getting from his ISP. :P

Speedtest isn't 100% accurate.

what's the most accurate speed test for the record?

Speedtest, but no speedtests are that accurate, it depends on time of day, quality of connection, sometimes even the weather!

The router does lie, that 8Mbps your router is quoting is not your actual speed, that's just what your ISP is providing to you, like ours says 8Mbps but actually we usually get ~6Mbps because we're about a mile from the exchange and we have copper cabling in an older house

I bet Orange fast-track SpeedTest.net connections to make them appear faster than they are, I've always suspected ISPs would do that one day (I'm not saying that's gone on here but it wouldn't surprise me).

Doubt it, I'm with Orange and I'm getting about the right speeds, comparing to what a download on Firefox takes at least. 5 Mbps isn't really that amazing :P

It could be the server you're downloading from.

I have never had an 'off' speedtest. Yes they can vary depending on multiple factors, but never to extremes like you have experienced.

You can see why it's got a 2 out of 5 rating... It's... umm... crap? :P Must be a server error... That must of been interesting, watching the needle shoot off nearing the limit :P

Is it me, or are the original websites and products like SpeedTest going to the dogs? Firefox is getting a lot of stick now, and at first everyone loved it :P
