There's this exercise I cannot suss at football training and it's my weakest point in the warm up. Our squad will make a circle, do stretches, then lie on out back with hands behind our sides and lift our feet up 6 inches. I really struggle doing this. I can feel my back really stretching and I've had a history (yes at 17 years of age) of bad back problems. How can I improve the length of time I keep my feet lifted 6 inches above the floor? I don't know if you have tried it, if you haven't, do it right now.

Lift your feet 6 inches off the ground and hold that position for 30 seconds, then rest for a minute.

I can manage about 15 seconds WHEN I have my arms behind my back, so it kinda supports it.

So how can I improve?
Is it just a matter of doing it so many times a day and it will eventually increase the time length?

First time I did this was in the army, and there they make you do it for as long as they please, normally about 2.5 minutes. What I found helped me was place the palms of your hands down, and then place them under you backside and push with your arms aswell.

Just keep trying it, your body will then have a reason to strengthen thus gaining more muscle, assuming your eating enough

it's true that different excersises target different fibres of your abdominals but try to a variety for proportion
