Just because you have Sky doesn't mean you automatically have Sky Sports.
We have SS but I've told my mum to get rid of it for the summer to save some money. This is just completely stupid though. SSN isn't even that great but they sure think highly of themselves don't they. And SSN HD? Don't make me laugh!

Sky aren't a charity. It's just to get people to stump up for Sky rather than watch their team's commentary on Freeview.

If they want to put their own news channel, which they spend a lot of money on running, onto their own tv service, then they should be allowed to if they want to?

Of course they are allowed to. Who said they weren't? :S It's still extremely tight and pretentious of them.

You have to get it seperately?
I think there is like a sports pack on virgin media, and like news, entertainment and stuff, they are like 5 packs for so much a month. I dont know, we have the XL package which is the top one, with all the channels.. Even the great coverage on ITV HD
I'm pretty sure SSN is one of the base package channels on Sky, and it definitely is on VM.

Yeah you get Sky then you can get the Sports pack and the Movies pack and whatever else you want.

Oh so it will be on the free ones you get anyway?

Definitely is on Virgin, I would highly imagine so on Sky.

Because it's been free all these years and it's hardly burning a hole in their pockets is it.

Meh, I know it's not good for us but lets face it, Sky are a company and they want to make money, it makes perfectly good business sense. As for Sky Sports News HD, it also makes sense. Most sport they have is now in HD, you could argue 99%% of it is apart from some cricket. The only problem with going to HD is that they would have to change Sky Sports News layout, they're currently broadcasting in 4:3 (the part of the screen where you actually see people talking), HD is 16:9 only, so they would have to get rid of the right bar which shows the tables etc.
Makes good business sense, but it's bad for us. Glad I'm going to VM HD+ within the next two months lol.
@Above; you need to purchase they basic Sky Sports package (like £5 a month or summet) to get Sky Sports 1 & 2 and Sky Sports News. If you want Sky Sports 3+4 it costs you about £12.
Btw, Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 are going to Virgin later this year, and there will be NO additional cost. So just going with Virgin IMO and get the basic Sky Sports package and you will get SSN + SS1 & SS2 and both in HD.

My hope now would be that the amount of adverts are cut down, due to them needing to make less, but I doubt it. :|
