Hi :D

Im going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach tomorrow with college and all my mates are urging me to go on the Pepsi Max Big One with them. I mean, I can be a risk taker but this ride goes over 200ft and I don't know if i could 'man up' and go on the ride. i just get this thing of when a rollercoaster goes up on the chain i just think to myself "why am i going on this!?" because I think it everytime I go on Infusion. The going up part is a worry for me, but after that I think i could enjoy the ride. the other thing that seperates me from going on Infusion rather than The Big One is because on Infsuion you have like a billion bars, up, under and around your body so your completely safe. The Big One has a seatbelt and a bar, now that doesn't sound all to convincing for me with a ride with such height and that's what kinda puts me off (yeah it is safe, but doesnt seem safe enough for me). I can just imagine now being sat on the ride going up and i get freaked out.

Is there any way not to be so frightened of heights?

one of the best ways is confronting your fear, try thinking beforehand that nothing can happen to you and be rational and tell yourself to be rational and that your fear is irrational.

You can't really cure a phobia overnight, it usually takes weeks if not months and that's when it's done professionally :P So just channel your thoughts to be more rational, is all I can say.

seeing the ride break down as I was on the big dipper wasn't much of a persuasion either.
that was the last time i visited :P

You have to push yourself and go out your comfort zone, think of the immense fun while your on it and the embarrassment of not going on it when everything's going to be okay :P

as much as I want to go on it, I dont think I can.

Overcoming a fear of heights:

The first step in overcoming a fear of heights is learning to control the physical symptoms. When faced with a threatening situation, taking slow, deep breaths can help slow the heart rate and increase the oxygen flow to muscles to keep from tensing up. If possible, a few minutes of meditation may be effective in relieving some tension. Relaxing music, aromatherapy, and even some stretching or light massage can help relieve the physical symptoms of a phobia.

mhmm maybe.

you need to face your fear or else you will be living with it for life. you are almost 100% safe in a rollercoaster too

If I were you is just go for it, I've been going for about 9 years and not once have I had the guts. I really have to make it happen this year though.

I hope you do go on the ride :)

Well...
I had been building up ALL day to go on the ride and just after 2pm I finally had the guts to queue up for it. The queue took about 25 minutes and by that time we had to go to the coach. We was at the front of the queue standing by the entry gates to go on the carriage and then my teacher rang us up and said "get to the coach now!" So when the rollercoaster stopped to pick it's next lot of passengers up... we couldn't do anything else but walk across and go to the exit :(
So I was basically, 30 seconds from being strapped in and facing my fears. Maybe it might've been for the best, I could've had a heart attack :L But I really am gutted I didn't go on it.

I'm frightened of heights too and I've experienced the Pepsi Max, it's pretty good! I was influenced to go on through a coin toss with tails being the 'no go'. The coin landed on tails but my mum looked so disappointed and I couldn't have that because after all we hadn't come to Blackpool just so I could enjoy myself. I endured the ride and came off with painful wrists from holding on so tightly. The Pepsi Max is the ONLY rollercoaster I've actually been on.

I'm not afraid of heights, but I'm terrified of spiders, which come in many numbers in the sumertime here in Canada. I completely freak out and get as far away from them as possible. I don't really know how I could confront this!

I confused myself when I went to Alton Towers.

It took me all day to actually go on a roller coaster and I decided to go on the oldest and most headacheing ride - the corkscrew =S

I was always scared of high rides, then I just went on them and I love them now. You just have to think, your strapped in and nothing can go wrong (usually).

Rollercoasters are just about the safest thing you can do. Compare a Rollercoaster to a car on the motorway:

1. A Rollercoaster is on a fixed rail, a car is free so collisions can potentially occur.
2. Rollercoasters are checked several times daily, cars are not.
3. Rollercoasters are operated by professionals, anyone can drive a car
4. An average Rollercoaster will actually go slower than a car on the motorway.

I personally LOVE Rollercoasters and when you think about it logically they are ridiculously safe, it's only because of the height and the fact that they are open top that people are scared in my opinion. If you get the chance then go on one, as Dan says, you won't regret it!

yeah... It took me like 5 hours to pluck up the courage to go on the Baby Catarpillar...
And Top Spin in Blackpool, if you've heard of it? That goes pretty high too, but I forced myself on it, queued up and when some-one else was behind me, that was it, no going back... :D
