View Full Version : Would you keep it?

So you are walking down the street and you see a wallet just laying on the ground. You look around and you can't see anyone who might of dropped it so you pick it up. You open up the wallet and see loads of credit cards, bank cards and the persons national insurance card. You also see a picture of a child which obviously is the owner of the wallets child. You open the money compartment of the wallet and see £100 tucked neatly inside. On further inspection of the wallet you notice a tag stuck to the back of the wallet saying if found please ring this number "***********". What would you do, would you keep the wallet or ring the number and arrange for it to be given to it's rightfull owner?
I honestly would ring the number and tell them to come pick it up, I personally would like someone to do this with my wallet when I lost it, but they didnt.

i'd take the cash and hand the wallet with everything else inside.

This, if it was £100. Finders keepers and all that. I've handed in a purse that had about £7.50 in it before but I'd take £100. No point lying about it! Prob feel a bit guilty but the money would be useful.

I'd probably take the money and hand the wallet and remaining contents to the police instead of ringing the number. If they ask I'll just say it was how I found it.

I'd probably take the money out, keep everything that i could find useful then put the wallet back where i found it.
I've bigger problems to worry about rather than SOMEBODY ELSES wallet.

if i'm completly honest i'd love to take the money and run. but from previous experience i've learnt that what comes around goes around & that if i did take the money something bad was bound to happen to me
when you have rang the number & gave it back to its rightful owner that person might give you a small reward anyway :)

wow, how can people easily just take someone's money when they have a way of giving it back? i find it hard to even ASK for a few quid -.-
anyway, i'd phone the number or take it to the police or i'd feel guilty forever.
oh actually a year back when we were out a woman took money out the bank and it blew away, me and a friend ran after it and got £70 of it. she didn't say thanks just said "I TOOK OUT £100!" i didn't even think of stealing it o.O
i'd steal the picture though, hot ;l

i'd feel tight taking it
just like the time i found £40 lying on the floor. spose if the two notes got left there it would've blown away so i did the right thing :)
probs give it back
you never know what kind of situation that person could be in

I am actually shocked at the amount of people saying they would take the cash. That's just awful.
lol would take the cash, and then hand it in and say the cash was already gone when i found it xoxo.
p.s: am a poor student, need the dolla. don't think bad ahahha
I'd nick the cash, maybe a credit card too, but give everything else back and say it was already gone...

OT: I am surprised at how many people took the money and left the wallet, but that's only what I answered!

I'd hand it back and hope they'd pay me for my troubles ;)
I would just do what I hope others would if they found my wallet. There are actually some nice people in the world.
Guilty conscious > give it to owner.

I'd ring the number and hand it back. £100 would be nice but it's wrong to take it. I'd have been fine without the money beforehand, and I would be fine after with the status quo unchanged.

A job. Hard to get these days but yeah theres quite a few if you go to the job centre.
I'd nick the cash, maybe a credit card too, but give everything else back and say it was already gone...
YEH SOZ BUT I NEED THE MONEY U THING
If you get caught using the credit card, you will probably get arrested ...
Anyway, I wouldn't even think about taking the money. Its the persons, they worked hard for it (or whatever). £100 is a lot of money for many people and taking it is basically stealing.

i found €100 and i was going to keep it until i saw it had a bank card with it so i thought i better really give it back. if it had no id left in it i probably would have kept it as there was no trace back to the owner.
give it back, theyre bound to give you some rewward for it anyway, even if it is just a fiver

I would give it back, I would feel bad taking someone elses money because they may need it and I would like it if someone gave me my purse back if I dropped it!

If it was just the money, without credit cards I'd take the cash, but if it was with credit cards, I'd return it with the cash aswell but anyway its his fault, should of looked after it more carefully lol

take the money and hand the wallet in. afterall, you taking £100 and them getting their cards back is a lot better than me taking £100 then leaving it there and someone else coming along and using all the cards to sap them of their savings.
and in my experience, nice guys finish last. i'd take the money no doubt about it.
Fully agreed.

yeh hi. i don't know if you've been to the job centre recently; but it's full of over-qualified 40 year old's that're much more qualified to work than i.
i have been TRYING (as has my fully qualified lawyer father) to find a job for 6 months.
job's don't grow on tree's, and i can't SIGN ON and get help from the government because i'm just about to start uni. so what do i do?
i'm sorry but if someone drops money on the street; i'm gonna pick it up. if i don't someone else will ;l.

This is one of my arguments, a few months ago it was on the news, im an old fart like that,
Someone found a wallet with over £30,000 in, he handed it in to its rightful owner, and didnt get anything for handing it in, i find it quite appaling tbh, especially when the person could of just kept it..

Of course I'd give it back, I'd expect the same back if it was my wallet that was lost.

£100 isn't going to change my life tbh,
Someone has earned that money, it's selfish to keep it.

You don't know who it is though, for all you know it could be a criminal who stole the £100...

And you taking the money is basically being a criminal of your own by stealing someone else's money.

i know someone who found over £1000 hidden and kept it.
"Someone else will"... not if you return it to the owner? :S
i'd return the wallet yeh, and i wouldn't steal someone's card. but i'd take the money.
will probably teach them to be more sensible.
i've lost a purse before, and someone took my money & returned my cards. so maybe i'm just a cynic..

Id take them money of there was no way of contacting them whatsoever
so in this circumstance i would just give it all back
NO WAY WOULD I TAKE THE CARDS. Use them and that's a serious offense, if you get caught anyway ;) But seriously I'd leave the cards as that's money they still technically have and can't lose in a wallet whereas it's possible to lose the £100.
