Yeh don't cheat your only allowed one. But you can say like a set of films such as the lord of the rings trilogy.

Mine is Kick-ass... but i have loads of films but if i had to pick i'd choose that one.

Thought we had this thread the other day?

Jaws.

I always find it bemusing when people say their all-time favourite film is something new.

Kick-Ass was brilliant, just the whole notion of favouritism from between around 1-3 years is bemusing to me.

Agreed, all my faves are between 7-20 years old :P With the exception of the new Star Trek.

Thats surprising. Didn't think anyone else in this generation had any respect for 2001.

Kubrick is my most favourite director of all time. Closely followed by Zemeckis.

So I can expect Forrest Gump to be a favourite of yours as well? Good choices. ;) Its interesting you picked 2001 though. Most would go for A Clockwork Orange out of Kubricks films and as far as sci-fi goes 2001 usually misses out on first place due to Blade Runner or Star Wars. 2001 is a fantastically deep film though. I had Kubrick as my director for film studies back in college and explaining all the odds and ends of the narrative in 2001 was a hefty task.

Gump is up there too, along with Back to the Future. Moon is on my list too, as you can probably tell from 2001 being 1#.

I just find the character of HAL more fascinating than any other villain or any other character ever. Blade Runner was ruddy good, but I just didn't think it dealt with too deep of themes as 2001 did. I wasn't too keen on The Shining, the only Horror film I have ever seen, but I did take a liking to A Clockwork Orange. Eyes Wide Shut is a clever piece of work, but I have yet to see Full Metal Jacket.

I need to make a top ten list some day.

Well I would personally say Blade Runner is just as deep as 2001 but to each his own I guess. I recommend getting around to watching Full Metal Jacket, there are a lot of good war movies out there and it is most definitely one of them. I own the Kubrick boxset but still have yet to watch Lolita, Dr. Strangelove and Barry Lyndon. I find the only problem with Kubrick's films is that you have to be in exactly the right mood to watch them, but then again every time you do watch them you always spot something new or catch on to something you didn't before. :P

The original Ninja Scroll is great! But I wouldn't say it's the best... In terms of Samurai, Sword of The Stranger trumps it all and really, in terms of anime movies - Tekkonkinkreet is brilliant. Or the Girl Who Leapt Through Time

I thought 2001 was more centred whereas Blade Runner had themes everywhere. Not hard to see or analyse, mind, but I find more enjoyment in seeing the hidden things in 2001. I am tasking myself with watching every great war movie ever made, with FJM at the top of the list. I too own a Kubrick boxset, although it's kind of old, I may update to bluray.

I agree with the 'right mood', since they're not really enjoyable until you start interpreting what is going on screen. It's not everyone, either, and generally 2001 is a very very slow movie.

I would consider Blade Runner the more centered film. The plot heads in a more straight forward direction and while it does take some thought the answers are there to work things out. In 2001 though the narrative isn't so straight forward and the ending is very ambiguous on first viewing. Neverthless, they are both films that'll require repeated viewing before the viewer is able to decide what they mean.

Watching every great war movie is indeed a task. :P I haven't really seen many myself, but Saving Private Ryan and Letters from Iwo Jima are my favourite war films.

I'm tied between: 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'Anchorman'.

TSR because its just an amazing film, great story, great characters, fantastic music that gives me goosebumps every time i hear it, its got it all. Anchorman because its just hilarious, and I can watch it over and over and still thoroughly enjoy it and laugh at the jokes.
