View Full Version : The Binary Game!

I thought I'd post the binary game (only play if you understand numbers in binary)
HOW TO PLAY
You have to try and say the number the last user did, after you counted the amount of ones in their binary number and added them onto the number they were trying to say.
For example:
* say I'm trying to say 3, which in binary is 0000011. There are two 1s in 3, so I would ad 2 onto three and get 5.
* 5 is 00000101. There is again 2 ones in five, so I would add those on to 5 and try to say 7.
* 7 is 00000111, which has 3 1s, so you would add 3 onto 7 and try to say 10.
SO, WE WILL START WITH TEN
00001010 (two ones in ten, so the next number would be twelve!)

So the next one is 00001100 (12)?
Edit: Apolva beat me :(
00001110?

Yes, and there are two ones in twelve in binary, so you add two onto twelve and the next number is 14:
00001110
00010001
a) This will end up being moved to forum games as it's "pointless/spam" and will then die as nobod will understand it/be bothered to work it out.
b) Why are you limiting this to 8 bits? I could just as validly write mine as 10001 and then we can continue forever.
Forum timed out and gave me accidental double post.

I was thinking it might be moved, but I really hope it's not, because I think it's better suited here where the users are actually interested in participating!

How about we ignore numbers by people who don't understand the concept, so we don't get muddled up?

I think it's ok here because of the reason you said, plus it taught me how to understand numbers in binary, so it's teaching people about technology :)
Also, 11001
25?

should post this in forum games
25?
100111010001
Yes, that previous one was 25. You're supposed to take this number and ad the number of ones to it. You get 28 and then post 28 in binary for the next person.
So the next one is:
11100
This game is so freakin' confusing I'm gunna lurk for a while. LOL
It's easy lol. Just as simple as the decimal number system you're used to. Probably simpler. Start trying to convert to hexdecimal in your head. Then it gets more confusing. Octal is simple though.

That's a good point. Really we should be starting with a 0.

100001
PinkPanther's was 31, so you should have posted the binary for 36.
I think what people are doing is posting the number that the last person posted in decimal form then adding the 1's and putting it in binary.

0100100
Wha? Wha is this?
Why post if you don't understand?

It's not, the number you have to try to say is 47, but you said 42 (2 + 8 + 32)
This is 47:
