With quite a few transfers flying around, we can expect a fairly interesting season.
Who do you think will make a good impression this year?

Premiership, FA Cup, Carling Cup
Champions League, Europa League
Promotions, Relegations

What do you think will happen this season?

Well pre-season friendlies start tommorow so lets just wait and see how well some teams perform, even if they arent against Premier League teams, it still helps to give an indication.

BLACKPOOL, fa cup quarter finals :)

Think they'll have a good season, first game against Wigan, I might go and watch it.

First game for United is Monday Night against Newcastle.

3rd 4th place will be very interesting this year. Spurs, Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Villa & Everton will be fighting eachother for it. Especially with City and Spurs bound to strengthen in terms of players.

I'd throw United and 2nd place in there too. It wouldn't be too outlandish to see Arsenal mature and finish above United, or even for City to finish above United (especially at this rate).

1st. Man City 2nd. United. 3rd. Chelsea 4th. Tottenham 5th. Liverpool 6th. Arsenal.

Pre-season shows nothing at all really. Just gives a chance to see some of the players in action.

But... I think we'll finish 1st or 2nd. I'm confident of that. Last season it was fighting for 4th before it started and we finished 3rd and could have won it at one point. This season, well if United don't buy anyone, and Chelsea lose Cole which is likely imo, I think we'll come back much stronger and fight for it. All depends on Fabregas though I guess.

Arsenal
Chelsea
United
City
----------
Spurs
Liverpool
Everton
Villa

Imo that will happen. If Liverpool lose no-one then they'll finish 5th I think.

Maybe if we play the football throughout the whole season United are known for, then we will win it. But we won't. We kick start in March when we realise we're 2nd/3rd and realise we can get top, but it's too late. Bring Sniejder and i'll be happy.

yeah i think that and if we manage to secure the couple of players we're after i think we can really challenge again. So i put Chelsea first because for this season, even if they don't get Torres, i think they will still be slightly too much for anyone to handle. I also just can't see City clicking like a title winning side needs too. They still aren't a team, just a group of big players. However give them a couple more seasons and they may just break the top 4 ;)

Why do you say that? Last season we were fighting for it, and the only reason we couldn't win it is because we had constant injuries. Also if we had Van Persie fit for the whole season, it could have ended very differently.

This season coming up, as long as we don't loose Fabregas and I think we wont this summer, maybe the one after, then we'd have grown in strength big time.

United don't seem to have any money to buy anyone so I doubt they'll improve much, not to mention Ferdinand who will miss the first few months.

Chelsea don't seem too interested in buying anyone big (I don't see them getting Torres), and all the older players have grown a year older yet again so who knows how they'll do, although I expect them to be right up there.

To say Spurs will finish above us is a joke.

We're the only team that have bought better players, and we've sold a lot of the dead weight in Silvestre, Senderos, Merida.

I have a reason to think we'll win :P Obviously we're the underdogs yet again but who knows. If we have an injury free (major injuries) season, we have a good chance.

Can see Blackpool being in trouble seeing as Holloway tends to adopt positive football tactics. He'll need to do what most teams outside the top 8 (plus villa) do and play anti-football tactics.

It will be very tricky. I can only see Liverpool getting better myself, and City obviously. Even with a striker, I don't think Spurs' team is as good as Chelsea/United/Arsenal's so I think they'll be fighting for 4th spot.

Meh, not too sure about that. Things can change in an instant. They wont go as far as doing a leeds, but they'll find it hard to get back to the top obviously. If they don't sell anyone, and bring in a few players to boost the squad, they can easily be fighting for 4th place. If they end up selling Mascherano and Torres, then it becomes almost impossible but who knows.

To be fair liverpools team is poor I think it's fair to say that we have the fourth/ fifth best all round side in the league.

CHA!NGANG
16-07-2010, 02:12 PM
Yeah but your side still needs time to gel so I'd say Liverpool might have a small chance still.

Liverpools first XI is almost as good as anyone's in the leagues. The problem is they have hardly any depth. If they get lucky and have a reasonably injury free season then they could very well make the CL spots again. You never know with football what will happen. Obviously if they start selling the big players, then that will probably mean they will have no chance really.

JackBuddy
16-07-2010, 06:11 PM

Erm, our attack is our weekest area. I'm pretty sure that one of Huntelaar, Suarez, Forlan or Fabiano will come in which is a major upgrade on anything we have now. Each of those strikers have expressed an element of interest in joining us so they're not completely unrealistic.) We have UEFA cup standard strikers and we need to step up if we want to retain 4th. We need a marquee signing, a Van Persie, Rooney, Torres, Drogba. Not neccesarily of the same quality but of the same calibre.

Defoe = fades out towards the end of every season.
Crouch = long ball and the occasional goal.
Keane = past it.
Pav = simply not good enough.

We have a quality midfield with Sandro and possibly Joe Cole being added this season and combined with a decent striker (who could possibly play in a 433/451) we could improve significantly. Considering we played 442 all last season I really am suprised we didn't get battered in away games.

It's not like we don't have the money. We can do better.

Don't know really it's hard to predict. It'll probably end up the big 4 who have always been the same until Tottenham finished 4th. I reckon it will be Arsenal to win the Prem possibly with Blackpool and either Wigan, Bolton or Blackburn or Wolves to go down!!

May-be Liverpool for the FA Cup, or may-be even it's time for a Championship Team to win it!

For the Leauge Cup, I dunno either who has a good chance, may-be Leicester, Bolton or Aston Villa to have another good run!!

No he hasn't lol. There was a reason behind him being dropped for Pav (even initially when his head wasn't in the right place).

We've just announced a record sponsorship deal and have reached the champions league (kind of). I'm sure that leads to an extra few million to spend. We spent £16m on Modric and Bent remember. £4m is nothing when you consider the step we have made since then. Harry said he has been given funds to break the bank if he can find a 'special player'.

CHA!NGANG

Looks like Fab isn't going. Barca are on the verge of signing Adriano for around £10 Million, so they'll have £32 Million left, which isn't enough to buy Fabregas. Unless they sell someone, or give us a player they'll have to wait for Fabregas.

I think the Premiership will be a much greater competition now, because instead of the four big teams of the Premiership fighting for first, second, third and fourth - we introduce two more teams establishing themselves as hard competition, Spurs and Man City. 6 teams fighting over 4 places. Should be good.

I think Liverpool will bounce back under new Management and will not, as others are saying, drop out of the top flight - though, i don't think they'll get back to previous form for at least a few seasons.

Your pattern of play will be

right back ----> centre back -----> defensive midfield -----> right back -----> centre back -----> centre back ------> left back -----> keeper

then repeat the process. might have a spell of midfield passing and maybe a shot but unlikely.

As far as Portsmouth are concerned they'll be no-where near the Top I think (they'll be lucky not to go down again, which I think they actualy will). Same for Hull too ... t

There's only Burnley who have any decent experienced players left from those 3 relegated I think (even less so with Portsmouth when all their best players have been sold!).
