It was a spoken language during the Roman Empire - it was more spoken than reading and writing because only the rich & powerful had an education.

Now it's a dead language since the Roman Empire fell.

Hmm I thought it was written more during the Roman Empire? I apologise.

They only had private schools to teach reading & writing, so not everybody could read and write. Speech on the other hand is picked up without education =]

I speak English and German.

My German isn't as good as it used to be. I did early GCSE german and then i did this two year intensive course which has given me 3 qualification just before A Level standard (Speaking, Listening and Reading). I stopped doing German when i went into Sixth form, which i regret. I used to be able to speak it near enough fluent but after not doing it for a while i've lost touch with it. I used to have dreams in German. Although if i hear people speaking german i can often understand what they are saying.
