I've just done my 9th lesson today and I really like the car I'm driving which is a 09 plate Toyota Yaris. On the road today I seen plenty of learner drivers in cars such as Ford Focuses & Fiestas, also Nissan Micra's.

Which car do/did you drive in your lessons?

My instructor has a black 3 door 59 plate Vauxhall Corsa Ecoflex 1.3 diesel, horrible thing to drive, sounds like a van!
My car that I practice in in between lessons (and that I'll use when I pass) is a 52 Renault Clio in aqua blue.

Will your first car be the one you learnt to drive in?

A private instructor is a lot better than BSM :)

3-door 2003 Fiesta was the driving instructor's car :) Bought a 5-door 2003 Fiesta when I wanted my own to learn in privately out of lessons.

not necessarily, it depends on your area. i learned with bsm, and i had a really good instructor, passed my theory and practical first time, alot of people i know who had private instructors took 2 or 3 attempts for both to pass them.

the fiat 500s are quite good, really easy to 3-point turn and parallel park in.

Red Ford Fiesta for my driving lessons. Bought a 3-door, 12V Corsa two months before I passed my test, so obviously had abit of practise in that and thats the car I drive now.

I learnt/did my test in a horrendous 1.5 dci 4dr megane, it was one of the most horrible, gutless excuses for a car with the worst build quality and interior I have ever had the misfortune of driving, it was two years ago now but i'll never forget the plastic gold gear****, or the fact the steering reach/rake adjustment used to decide to move when it wanted to :P

I disagree. I learned with BSM and my instructor was epic (kinda knew him before hand and he charged me family rate). He told me a lot about private instructors and criticised how they'd taught the other learners in private instructor cars we drove past. There was some good ones though like "I've not seen that instructor before but he's got him in the perfect road position, not bad". Most of his students pass first time too.

Car was a 57 plate Astra 1.6 - back in 2008 when I learned lol.

I've never done a lesson and I've got a year and a couple of months before I can even take one (if the age limit doesn't go up :P).

But I'd like to learn in a Corsa or from what I've heard a Hyundai i30 is good! :)

I learnt with the AA in 10 plate 1.6 Ford Focus.

Very forgiving cars but they just didnt feel as comfortable as they could be to me.

Dont get me wrong they were VERY nice but i personally would not have one.

I too am learning with the AA in a Focus. My instructor told me Ford went lazy with the Focus and didn't bother switching the position of the handbrake. You'll notice between the driver and the handbrake is a cupholder, apparently this is designed for right hand drives and Ford didn't switch it over.

Yep exactly why i dont really like the card :), my instructors leg usually got in the way of the handbrake so you can imagine stopping wasnt really a nice thing to do :). Thank god ill never have to see him again :P.
