my tv blew up earlier so had to use the one that's been in my conservatory for like... years, and the problem is it only supports DVI-I and VGA (both I believe will be HD quality?) i do not have this leads so obviously can't use them, but the TV also does NOT support component HD, so i can't connect my xbox to it via that, the only way i can connect it is via scart (non hd), i tried it earlier and well, it's unplayable.

So how can I get my xbox to work in HD with a TV that doesn't support component HD, can i connect my xbox to it via dvi/vga? if so how?

I'm crap with wires and stuff ;[

thanks +rep

i am sure the only way HD on the Xbox will work is HDMI or Component

hmm i'm thinking if i get my HDMI cable and buy a HDMI>DVI/VGA converter? would that work? :/

You can get a VGA cable for the XBOX for about £4 on eBay. I use one with my 250GB XBOX and it works really perfectly.

How would I connect it up? would it be HD (i'm guessing yes) and what about sound?

this is all very confusing lol

The VGA cable just goes into the XBOX and the TV, just like your standard component / composite cable. You also have left and right phono conenections for the sound, if your TV doesn't have this, you might want to invest in a small pair of speakers (and maybe an adapter to connect the phono to the speakers' connections if they don't have phono in).

This (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audio-VGA-HD-AV-Cable-Lead-Optical-Output-XBOX-360-/400059148681?cmd=ViewItem&hash=item5d25622989#ht_1909wt_911)is what you need.

Feel free to ask any more questions if you have any!

Hmm, I have red, white and yellow connections behind my TV, so would I be able to connect the VGA to the VGA port and then connect the red and white leads into the red and white ports (and then leave the yellow blank)? then would I have HD and also sound?

Btw I use turtle beaches (as I only play COD), could I use these by plugging them into the sound jack instead of buying speakers?

That should work, in theory, although it may depend on your TV. I can't guarantee it will work but it should.

You will have HD if your TV is HD, most are HD now although you mentioned it's old so it may not.

And yes, you should be able to do that for it to work, although again I cant guarantee.

So here's my options:

- Buy a HDMI cable and then buy a HDMI>DVI cable but then play with no sound...
- Buy a VGA cable (here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audio-VGA-HD-AV-Cable-Lead-Optical-Output-XBOX-360-/400059148681?cmd=ViewItem&hash=item5d25622989#ht_1909wt_911)) and plug the red and white cables into the red and white ports, but their's no guaranteeing that the sound will work.

Ugh, this is annoying.

I have to choose one of the above either way, playing COD in SD is just impossible.

I'd go for the second choice, it should work. If not, you can always buy a pair of speakers for about £10 or use some you may already have and then an adapter to connect the phono connection into the 3.5mm jack the speakers will most likely have.

If it doesn't support component HD or HDMI, the chances are it's non HD, and you will only be able to play in standard definition.

VGA = Analogue
DVI = Digital

Therefore you can't (at least I don't think you can) convert HDMI to VGA. There's a slight chance that your TV supports a slightly greater resolution than SD through the VGA port.

No, it's a 720p TV, it says it on the front lol :(

I have one of these that came with my Turtle Beach, would it help with the sound issue, at all?

In that case, the VGA adapter mb-group suggested should suffice, just use the adapter you just posted to connect it up to your turtle beach.

Yeah, as Apolva said, that'll work fine. Good luck!
