Female students wearing a full face veil will be barred from Syrian university campuses, the country's minister of higher education has said.
Ghiyath Barakat was reported to have said that the practice ran counter to the academic values and traditions of Syrian universities.
His ruling, published on the All4Syria website, was said to be in response to requests from students and parents.
The issue of full face veils has caused controversy in other countries.

Hmmm, now this is interesting. Syria is howing itself to be a more conservative country with this move. It's interesting that students and parents wanted this.

It is very interesting indeed and it shows (once again) that the burka is not a required religious garment and is just cultural, so only certain places wear it.

Syria has been opening up for many years now and is following a route of modernisation such as the one Iraq followed under the Ba'ath regime & President Saddam Hussein, another great step for them [Syria].
