Sadly, Jason Griffith will no longer be playing the voice actor of Sonic the Hedgehog. As announced on Sega of America's blog the new voice actor will be Roger Craig Smith.

Roger is famously known for Chris Redfield off Resident Evil 5, Ezio Auditore da Firenze off Assassins Creed 2 and Siegfried Schtauffen off Soul Calibur IV, and in anime he as even voiced the character Deidara from the Naruto series. He has even been inside the Valkyria Chronicles where he voiced Ted Ustinov, Vyse Inglebard, Johann Oswald Wisen and other additional voices. But sonic isnt the only one getting a whole new voice, oh no, Tails is too.

Kate Higgins will be voicing the 2 tailed fox. Both these two will be voicing sonic and tails starting from Sonic Colors and even Sonic Free Riders.

There is good news in all of this as Dr. Eggman's voice actor (Mike Pollock) will still continue to voice eggman since he first did eggman's voice back in 2005.

So farewell to Both Jason Griffith and Amy Palant (who voiced tails). I hope the new voice actors are good

As long as Tails isn't a screechy little beggar and Sonic hasn't got that annoying yet false American accent that attempts to make him cool, then I'll be fine.

Not only is sonic and tails being changed, but nearly every characters voice (excluding eggman) is being changed

Does anyone know why Dr Robotnik had his name changed?

I think robotnik was surposed to be eggmans grandfather. Hope the new actors are good.

His name was changed from Robotnik to Eggman as an insult to his egg shaped look and it wasn't until after Sonic Adventure where the term Eggman was used rather than Robotnik

So there isn't actually any proper reason, they just decided to change it?

Well, eggman was more commonly used than Robotnik

Robotnik was his JP name.

Ah right I see. I've never called him Eggman, I remember a friend of mine said that it was when a different company took over the voice acting for Sonic X or something? idk, I'm not a huge fan of Sonic, but I loved the series where they had like musical instruments, Sonic Underground I think it was.

Sonic supposedly cottoned on to Ivo's look so he calls him Eggman instead of Robotnik, and Robotnik himself adopted the name affectionately because Sonic uses it. I think the Sonic Comics reflect this, but it could be for the simple reason PaulMacC said :)

Robotnik was his JP name.

Eggman was the Japanese name and was changed due to the voice acting in the adventure series. His name is robotnik, but he was always called eggman in the jp manuals. Always have the jp voices on given a choice but I didn't mind his recent voice hopefully his new one will be decent
Either way I'll still buy the games

Using iPod so might be few mistakes.
