View Full Version : Quote Notification

In an effort to increase posting, and just general features, could we not introduce Quote Notifications? I think they'd be really handy, and i'd love it, especially since i may forget to check a post that i've posted in and someone may have said something worth replying to, never know. And im sure they can be turned on or off to the user's preferences.

For those wondering what it is, the person who made it describes it as;

This plugin will add a "Quote Notification" option for users to select. If selected, your board users will receive a notification by PM whenever someone quotes them in a post. It's pretty self-explanatory and i can't see why not, unless there was some security risk im unaware of. thanks thanks.

There's another plugin that simply just lists "Who quoted you" in a widget on the home page (though I bet you could put it in the User CP instead)

Could also work i suppose, my idea was not specifically the plugin i mentioned, but anything that lets you know that someone has quoted you, and where.

Yeah, I posted this idea in that massive feedback thread, seems it got overlooked though!

Good Idea, but you could just subscribe to the thread, then it tells you if there has been a reply if your that interested.

But in some larger threads, particularly feedback threads, you can't always see. i remember there was that thread a few days ago that went from 1 page to about 13 pages in the same of a couple hours, and i'd gone out so. This meant that i'd have to go through all the pages to see, n it's just much easier.

Yeh I supose that would come in handy, I actually suggested this a while back in someone elses thread and it got shot down because of the subscribe feature :l
I would prefer to have a quote system aswell :) + Rep, good Idea.

OH Wait, I have to spread some more rep because i repped you like 2 weeks ago :l

Inseriousity.

I saw it and quoted it! If this feature had been here, you'd have known :P
I really love this feature on The Student Room and it redirects me to threads I've forgot about to post in again. Brilliant feature imo. :)

i very much like this idea, like sometimes i post in a thread and forget all about it, and go back and someone's quoted me and i feel kinda rude cause i didn't reply! ahaha.

Very good idea, see no reason why it shouldn't be implemented. +rep

This idea is fantastic! It'd be so much more handy and I often do what Bethie does and look back and feel mean because I haven't replied xD +rep!

I subscribe to all threads anyway, but it's better to have this than to read through the thread if someone hasn't even quoted you. I've seen it on another forum and it's better, v. useful.

This is a fantastic idea, really do hope it gets implemented as I also think it would improve the longevity of threads too! :) +rep when I can, gave too much out in the last 24 hours.

I think notifications generally should be used. Not like the current ones, but more like Facebook, and you could receive a notification for the following things:

Receiving a PM
Receiving a visitor message
Receiving an award
Someone joining your group
Someone commenting etc. on your group
Someone posting in your thread
Someone quoting one of your posts

And any other similar forum activities.

Id love this. Its so handy on TSR, though on that and thread you post in you auto-subscribe to... Which is alright at times? Meh mebbe we're not active enough :P

But yeah "pyroka likes this"

Im sure there's already an option for you to auto-subscribe to thread you post in

there is. cause that's what i have.

though i would much prefer to replace that with an option to subscribe to threads yr quoted in.

The mere fact that the poll for this suggestion has 21 votes for yes and 0 votes for no shows that it would be a worth while feature, I hope to see it get implemented. :)

I pretty much agree with everything that has been said. I think that it's a great idea and I really do hope that it is implemented!

I'm not sure getting a PM every quote would be ideal, but the idea of it on the userCP certainly sounds quite interesting.

Perhaps have it the same as when you get a message on your profile?

It could be placed between the subscribed threads and the reputation list :)

I'm not sure of the likelihood of this being implemented but so long as it's toggle-ready I would absolutely love this.

I think this would be a good idea, if it uses the 'notifications' bit at the top right. It doesn't need a pm aswell.
What is it even for? I've only ever got notifications when I've had pms, but you get the little pop up window aswell, so I don't see the point in it.

Would prefer it if it wasn't a PM though... takes up alot of space and I use up my pm storage quickly anyway whilst doing my rare values reports.

I think that's a really good idea and would probably help to create more discussion in threads when people know they've been quoted.

Definitely don't be notified via PM because it's too fussy and it's not a very useful thing to fill inboxes up with. A smaller notification would be more suitable.

Hmm. Personally I would prefer PMs, as I have E-mail notifications enabled. That wouldn't matter, though, solong as you could enable them for this I suppose!

No no no, not PMs. More like somewhere on usercp with lists of threads / posts.

I do wonder if it will be implemented though as Jin doesn't want more addons.

But great idea Nemo.

I like this idea. Definitely not PMs mind, you could get tonnes. Perhaps a section on usercp or something.

Not too sure how it'd work but I can discuss it with the man who knows, for now it's a maybe.

I like the idea of having a notification like we get when we get a visitor message, like the bar at the top

Nahh, I don't, I hate that bar.

I like the notifications button at the top, but that bar annoys me.

As i've said previously, I think the notifications should be represented similar to how Facebook represents theirs. :)

Thats something I may look at for the v6 site skin. It would be a pain to go back and change the existing skins :)
