When you were younger what were your parents like with films and TV shows, did they always go off the age ratings or did they make their own mind up about whether or not you could watch them. Also if something sexual/rude was happening would they react by turning it off for a second or just ignore it and hope it wouldn't last for long? I personally remember being able to watch any films no matter what the rating was as long there wasn't loads of sex or strong language in it. I remember watching loads of action films that had high age ratings mainly due to all the violence so my parents weren't really too fussed about that stuff.

My parents were extremely liberal. I watched Hellraiser at four years old. Children are not influenced by what they see in films to do wrong. The only time they do so is if they are already mentally disturbed, so they shouldn't be watching in the first place. A sane human being has no issues with seeing such material. Sure. the mainstream media likes to see otherwise, like blaming a moment in a scene in Reservoir Dogs which isn't actually shown on the killers of Jamie Bulger - yes, of course, I'm sure that film also made him a pedophile years later...

not at all, and i don't see why they should be - it's only a film & if it upset you the first time you know not to watch that genre again

I was allowed to watch what ever I liked. To be honest though, I wasn't really interested in 18 rated films until I was a teenager. I was more exploited with Disneys innuendos :P

My parents only used to watch films late at night, so was my bed time anyways.

My parents were pretty cautious about what I watched but it never stopped me ;p They didn't really care once I was like... 12.

They won't let me watch 18 movies because well.
I aren't 18 so obviously they aren't gonna be suitable for me to watch.
if it's a 15 my parents watch it first then if it's ok I can watch it :)

My dad wasnt fussed at what I watched. My mother always turns the tv off for like 10 minutes if a nude scene in a movie or even a sex related advert came on the TV if i was watching. Up until i was 15 years old... I wasnt really influcended by 18+ rated movies and tv series, till i turned 13. Ofc the boy hormones kicks in then ;) even now im not really fussed by them.

My parents werent too fussed about me watching high rated films. My parents just didnt like me watching proper mental horror films. I didnt really care though cause I dont really like those films myself.

they werent ever protective really, but then i kind of protected myself. Never really enjoyed horrors so thats most 18+ gone and my mum didnt mind action films. She would also laugh if i was watching something and there was a rude scene because she knew i'd feel awkward.

So nah, not really

I remember watching Crime Watch when I was 5 and I had nightmares for ages.

Umm my parents were quite harsh, when it came to games from the age of 8 I was allowed anything but I didn't watch 18s till I was about 14 and 15s till I was about 12.

they might not influence behavior but it can still be very traumatizing for a child to watch certain things. i remember once when i was staying at my grandpas house when i was 8 or 9, he started to put on saving private ryan cause he heard it was a good movie. i remember seeing the first 10 minutes and being like D: . definitely the most terrifying thing i had ever seen up to that point. he had to turn it off cause he realized wed have nightmares haha. and its not like its completely obvious when a child is mentally disturbed, a doctor wont hand a mother her baby and be like "btw hes mentally disturbed don't let him watch any of the halloween movies."

Being upset by content as a child is a different kettle of fish. Anyway, I can remember loving the hell, no pun intended, out of Hellraiser when I was four and grew up watching the old Universal monster movies before I was 10, as well as Jaws, which became my favourite film of all time. A decade later I've acquired the knowledge of the genre to write a feature-length horror film and go off to shoot it in a matter of days. It certainly helped me.
