My laptop has 1gb RAM.

Would Xp or Win7 run better ?

I have 1GB RAM and windows 7 runs fine for me.

Windows 7 will run smooth on that, and it's better supported / saturated with features than its XP counterparts.

Thanks, think ill get win7 for it. Just i thought you needed atleast 2gb,

Nope at least 1GB recommended, but i hear it runs fine on less

All versions of win 7 minimum RAM is 1gb :)

64-bit requires 2GB RAM.

Decided to install Windows xp but seems like i have a problem.
I mounted the iso, and rune setup.exe but it wont let me isntall ?

Got it working but it wont let me install still because of a compatability issue, anyone know how to get around this?

Do this instead:
1. Put your disc in the tray.
2. Restart.
3. If it asks to install windows when starting up ("Press any key to start the windows installer..." or similar), press any key.

If it doesn't ask, and just boots your current copy of windows:
1. Restart again
2. Go into BIOS (mash F2 or Del just as you turn it on)
3. Set CD-ROM as the first item and HDD as the second in the start-up routine.
4. Restart and try again.

I dont have the CD, i torrented the .ico and mounted it...

Unless you're planning to run it virtually, you'll need to burn it to a physical disk.

Well thats your problem, im sure it has to be from CD

EDIT: when you boot from disk you have an option about partitions

Yes, if u burn it to a disc :) you cannot install using a .iso from ur computer, only a bootable disc

No, you need a disk!

This is how I installed XP, I tried everything in the end I burnt it to a disc and it worked fine :)

i just installed 7 using my USB :)
