This works with either a PS3 or Xbox 360.

Thing's you will need:

Television
360 or PS3
Recordable DVD Player
Video Editing Software

This method is usually cheaper than buying a capture card such as Dazzle and far better quality than cheap capture cards from eBay.

Plug your consoles AV cables into the av input on the back of your DVD player.
Connect your DVD player to your TV.
Insert a blank DVD disk into your DVD player and turn on your console.
When you want to record whilst playing, wait untill the point you want to record then hit record on your DVD player or your DVD player remote, then press again when you want to finish recording.
Once you have all the footage you want, remove the disk, insert it into your computer and open up your video editing software and get making a montage or gaming video!

I've just had a quick scan on google and it appears playtv has a recording feature so maybe it's possible, yeah. :P
You can only try?
