Lady Gaga admits taking cocaine ‘occasionally’

Lady Gaga has admitted that she takes cocaine, describing her usage as "occasional".

In an interview with US magazine Vanity Fair, the singer divulged that she used the drug "maybe a couple of times a year".

However, the 24-year-old Poker Face singer discouraged her fans from copying her.

She said: "I do not want my fans to ever emulate that or be that way."

The star has previously admitted to having a serious drug habit before she was famous.

Last year, she told The Observer that she did "bags and bags of cocaine" as a struggling artist in New York, but quit after being confronted by her father.

"I was able to stop, because I was panicking more on the drugs than I was sober," she said at the time. "So I'm fine now."

Responding to Gaga's comments Dr Alex Yellowlees, Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist at the Priory Hospital Glasgow, said: "Cocaine has a more refined image than other drugs because it is often seen to being taken by glamorous celebrities.

"But the more accepted it is as 'normal' the more people could try it who are susceptible to developing problems or addictions.

"Drug use has a wide ranging negative effect on the human body."

Whilst not condemning the singer's admission Talk To Frank, the government backed drugs help service, has issued advice.

Dr. Ken Checinski, consultant psychiatrist said: "Cocaine is psychologically more addictive than many other substances, such as alcohol and cannabis, and can easily become a habit that controls your life."

'Lonely' Gaga
Elsewhere in the Vanity Fair interview, Lady Gaga said she was "perpetually lonely" despite her global success.

She said: "I'm lonely when I'm in relationships. It's my condition as an artist."

The Poker Face singer added in the candid chat: "I'm quite celibate now; I don't really get time to meet anyone."

She told the magazine: "I'm drawn to bad romances. And my song [Bad Romance] is about whether I go after those [sorts of relationships] or if they find me.

"I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they're going to take my creativity from me."

really coke is probably the most normal thing she does. and all that stuff above really wouldnt bother me too much if she didnt always insist that she's somehow different from other pop musicians, which she's not. thats really all that irks me, that shes completely blind to the fact that she's not original at all.

Apparently in her younger years she had a choice of what sex she wanted to be so they could do some surgery and put her on either the male or female hormones or something but idk the source I got that from wasn't the most reliable...

depends where you are, and if you consider alcohol to be a drug (which i do). if alcohol is a drug then you bet your ass most university students do drugs, i see it constantly and i'm at a pretty highly regarded school. even if alcohol isnt a drug, with the large majority of schools i dont see it as going much less than 50/50, seeing as how 45% of the population has admitted to marijuana use, and thats not even taking into consideration those who didnt admit it, and the fact that people of college age are exponentially more likely to do it.

yeah i dont get it when people say she has an "incredible voice." she doesnt even really sing? hahaha i mean she carries a melody but she's not like beyonce who actually sings and has a range and technique. gaga just uses a monotone, basic melody that pretty much anyone can do. thats not even a rip on lady gaga (though i still dislike her), plenty of great artists dont really "sing" per se. but when people say lady gaga has a great voice i just think... why? theres a difference between having a good singing voice and just carrying a good tune.

performing doesnt get you "high," it gives you a rush maybe. drugs get you high. the feeling of performing is different than the feeling that coke gives you. just like the feeling of eating a hamburger is different than riding a roller coaster. just because they both make you feel good doesnt mean they feel the same and that you can only do one or the other.

yes ive heard the MIA comparisons and dont get me wrong i love her check my av and sig yeah but her and gaga are two completely different artists, their music is different, they dress differently, they are just so not similar and i dont understand it. and i completely disagree with what she said about the weird thing. people seem to fail to realise that gaga has never once said she is 'weird'. its just other people. one of the most annoying things i find in people is when they try and call themselves crazy or weird cos they are just not and strive to be something different. lady gaga doesnt do this. also im not sure why mia has such an issue with lady gaga cos she had some bad things to say about her recently as well and i dont know why shes still doing it as if she wants to start some 'public beef' with her and just wants her to retaliate. if gaga was such a media ***** she would hit back at all these people and make a lot of enemies but she doesnt talk about other artists.

i havent heard of where she said that she works harder than other artists. ive heard that said about her but never from her. so if she did, i agree with you there but i dont think she would have said that. and its not even about releasing an album every year, its about literally just not stopping working, she didnt take a break at all in between the two. and im not saying shes the only one that does that but she does work incredibly hard.

also i agree slightly with the seriousness, a lot of her music is just like 'catchy pop' music but if you listen to some of the album tracks, especially from the fame monster, a bit of what it is about is serious and not just 'catchy pop'.
